Hogans in kerry - Near Milltown
« on: Wednesday 19 April 06 13:40 BST (UK) »
I am seeking any information on a Hogan family. They show up on the 1901 census in the Parish of Kilbonane in the Townland of Lissavane East. Head of the house was Daniel Hogan, his brother Patrick, sister Maggie and Daniels daughter Hanna aged 4. Her mother was Elizabeth Tangney and had died sometime previous. Other brothers and sisters had migrated to Australia.
The parents were Patrick Hogan and Johannah Horgan who are both buried in the Killagha Abbey cemetery in Milltown.
Any info on them or any relatives would be greatly received.

Thankyou

There are 2 Hogans listed in Lissivane in the Tithe Applotment Books: John Hogan and Darby Hogan. The Tithe Applotment covers the years from 1824 to 1826. There is one listing for Hogan in Griffith's Valuation for Lissivane East (none listed for Lissivane West) Mary Hogan. She was occupying a house, office and land owned by a Denis S. Lawler. Griffith's Valuation would cover the mid-1800s (about 1853). Currently, there are no longer any Hogans in Lissivane East but there are Hogans in Listry (just a few yards south and east of Lissivane). It is believed that there is a family connection between the Hogans from Lissivane and the ones currently living in Listry. I hope this extra information is of use to you.

Hi,
I've just come across this enquiry, and noted the reply about the grave stone in Killagha Abbey. The Hannah Hogan mentioned is my grandmother and the Patrick and Johanna are her grandparents. My grandmother was an only child although she did have 3 stepbrothers as her father Daniel remarried. if you have any information about the people who emigrated to Australia I would be grateful.
