Kingwell - Ugborough
« on: Tuesday 18 April 06 00:51 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for anything that would help find proof of birth of "Henry Manning Kingwell" c. 1832. His parents would have been Samuel Kingwell b. 1781 -Ugborough, and Jane Mary Manning b.  about 1781 also in Ugborough. They were married either May 25, 18-3 or July 29, 1803, in Ugborough. If not that Samuel, maybe Samuel Kingwell christened Aug 22, 1875, and Mary Newman, about 1808 - everyone from Ugborough - married Sept 3, 1829, in Ermington, Devon.

Tks,

Rick

Hello.

As the birth is pre 1837 then you only have the parish/church
record to depend on,  the IGI has a reference for Henry born
1832 (no date) and parents are as you have given.

Mike,

Tks for the info.... Can you tell me which of the Samel Kingwells is mentioned as his father?  Does the parish record give the name of the mother? What is the name of the Church, please?

Rick...

P.S. Sorry for all the typos in my original posting.

Mike,

Can you tell me what IGI stands for? I'm not aware of the meaning...
Also, is there a British Census for that period or up-to the 1860's that would mention him? He came to Canada pre-1872 with the British Fusiliers and stayed in Quebec City where he married my wife's great-grandmother.

Rick....

Here are all the Kingwells I can see in 1841
The 1841 does not give relationships so you cannot always assume that children are with their parents or even that people of the same age heading the family are husband and wife.they could be sister and brother. You can however follow them through the later censuses and find the evidence.

Thanks for the info... that Richard Kingwell and Mary Newman may have been Henry Manning Kingwell's brother.
In searching I have found that the Kingwells were originally "Kingwill"
Is there a KINGWILL from Ugborough?

Hello.

A search of the NBI shows 29 Kingwill 1748 - 1900 all are
in Somerset.
