Hi  Geoff
I have got some census info on the Spilmans, if I am on the correct branch of this tree I believe William's wife to be Mary Ann Cole, married circa 1843, yet to be confirmed
.
I agree with the Musson connection as well.

Perhaps I can PM you if you will agree

Yes, I see that Herbert's middle name was possibly COLE.  I see the IGI has a Mary Ann COLE of about the right age.

Feel free to PM me. What's PR ???

Hi Louisa

I have a Spilman connection also and have done some work on this family tree.  My Great Grandmother was Sarah Benson Spilman who was a daughter of Robert Benson Spilman (born 1844) mentioned in the note by Geoff.  I can tell you:

Robert Benson Spilman was born in 1844 in Alkborough.  His occupation in the 1881 and 1891 census was recorded as a farmer.  He died on the 25th June 1934 at Clixby House.  He married Mary Ann Spilman (nae Topham), who was born about 1847, also of Alkborough.  Mary Ann died on the 10 March 1927 in Clixby, where she was buried. Their children were:

a.   Florence, born about 1876 in Alkborough
b.   John Topham, born about 1880 in Alkborough
c.   Jessie Emily, born about 1882 in Alkborough
d.   Sarah Eleanor, born about 1883 in Alkborough
e.   Anna, born about 1886 in Alkborough
f.   Lucy, born about 1888 in Alkborough
g.   Henry Christopher, born about 1890 in Alkborough

Sarah married my Great Grandfather Cyril Percival Markham on the 6th June 1911 in Clixby, Lincolnshire.   Sarah was born in the last quarter of 1883 in Alkborough, Lincolnshire.   She died aged 56 years of liver cancer on the 21st January 1942.  My Grandfather George was at her side when she died in Cabourne.

Notably the name Benson that originated from Sarah Benson was passed on down through my Grandfather, Unlce and his son.

Hope that is of some help.

Regards
Darren

Hi Ann
Yes I saw that site, very good it was, they must have put a great deal of work into it, are you related to Spilmans from Lincs?

Hi yes I am. So using the site Icould trace myself back to Thomas spilman who died in 1683. Further forward my ancestor was Robert Spilman 1768-1847 then Robert Spilman1798-1883 then Charles Spilman 1828-1868 then Charles Spilman 1861-1940 then Robert Charles Spilman 1904-1973 then Harold George Spilman1930-1998 then ME.

The early family lived in either Alkborough or Walcot but Charles Spilman 1861-1940 moved to Broughton and we have lived there ever since.

Very interesting, Thomas Spilman 1690 is my 6x GGrandfather and I also gained a great deal from diplomate.freeserve.co.uk.
I have visited Alkborough and the cemetery and found relatives there.  The Spilmans have dwelt in Alkborough for centuries and it's great to know they're still around.
My connection with the family is through Ann Elizabeth Spilman 1823 the daughter of John Spilman 1798 of Whitton, who married Joseph York Teanby 1819 - my GG grandfather.
