Fitzpatrick
« on: Sunday 16 April 06 16:43 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am researching an Edward Fitzpatrick who was born about 1840 in Tipperary and moved to the Kilmanagh area of Kilkenny around 1867. His marriage certificate states that he was from Cappagh and that his father was Bryan. In the 1901 Census there was a Patrick Fitzpatrick (also born about 1840) in Cappagh, close to Ballingarry, whose eldest son I know to have been Bryan or Brien. I think it is likely that this Patrick was a brother of Edward above. Patrick was married to Ellen Egan and also had a daughter Bridget and son Patrick. Does anyone have any information on these Fitzpatricks of Cappagh?
There are no Fitzpatricks listed there in the Griffith Valuation.
Thanks

Thank very much Audrey.

I have been doing a little more investigating and now realise that there are 2 townlands called Cappagh which seem to be close to each other and on the border with Kilkenny. One is in Ballingarry and the other is in Templemichael. From the Griffiths Valuation I know that there were a number of Fitzpatrick families in Castlejohn, Templemichael, right next to Cappagh. Does anyone have any info on these Fitzpatricks? Are there still Fitzpatricks in the area?

Brendan

Hi Brendan
I have Fitzpatricks in Templemichael.

Mine is Patrick Fitzpatrick, he married my g g grandmother Mary Butler in 1877 he was 55yrs it states batchelor, but I suppose he could have been married before.

His fathers name was Edward Fitzpatrick, and one witness was James Fitzpatrick.
That is all I ahve been able to find at the moment.

Have you come across these names?

Julie

Hi Julie,

Unfortunately I have not made much progress recently. It is interesting to note that there was an Edward in Castlejohn though. Were the names Bryan or Bernard also used? I'll let you know if I discover anything new.

Hi Brendan
At the moment I have been unable to find anymore info on my Fitzpatricks as by the 1901 census Patrick was deceased, the only other option is for me to try and trace him through church records.
I have written to someone I know to ask for help, I will let you know.

I wouldnt be surprised if some of the Fitzpatricks from Castlejohn ended up in Rutland County Vermont Slate quarries mid 1800s. But that is more about a lot of circumstantial evidence as opposed to hard  facts.
