Thanks Diddy, I wasn`t sure if you got his Death from the SP or the MIs for Fife.
But I feel that this James Sim is my ancestor as the 1851 Freecen census gives my ancestor John Sime`s birth place as Letham in Fife and the 1861 Census for him gives his birth place as Monimal Fife.
Kind regards,

#sholto.

Hi sholto & diddy
I was looking at Fife Family History Pub 17
but I see it says the inscriptions were compiled by the
editor maybe it was missed for lack of information.

I live only about 10 miles from Letham and was due to go there this morning but it was raining so went of to Dundee instead, will try and get next week and check Monimal Cem.
may as well photograph the headstones while I'm there

There are no SIM listed in the area

Hi Sholto    well I made it to Monimail Cemetery but the bad news is there is no sign
of a headstone for John SIM,
about 30% of stones in the cemetery are nearly unreadable, and we can thank
the Mitchells for the work they carried out in the 70s and the record they have left.
A few of the stones and all the table stones are  covered with moss

It was a lovely spring day, so good that with the strong low sun it was impossible
To get good photographs. Will return on a duller day
The cemetery was blanked in snow drops a lovely sight.

Hi Norrie,
A disappointing result, but not to worry, thanks for going to Monimal it`s greatly appreciated.
Perhaps he is among the stones that are unreadable, Monday was a beautiful day, I look forward to hearing from you again.

not in MI's but fife death index CD has:

Robert Petrie of Dysart, St Clairtown
12/5/1818 age 76;   weaver
widow of Christian Scott
OPR 426-8

Christian Petrie of Dysart, St Clairtown
13/10/1812
w/o Robert Petrie, weaver /feuer
BUT alias Hall??

could she be maiden name Scott - married Hall before Petrie?? or other way round...

Thanks for this Diddy.  I wasn't 100% that they died in Auchtermuchty...was going for there because their son George was born and died there (1781 -1861).  The age of Robert Petrie ties in with what I have.  I'll look into Christian Scott/Hall...

Update:

Think these are two different Robert Petries.  Also checked out George again, and my mistake, but he was born in Collessie and died in Auchtermuchty.

The marriage I have for George's parents are Robt. Petrie and Christian Scott  1764 Collessie; names confirmed on George's death extract.

Found a marriage for a Robt. Petrie and Christian Halley 1787, Dysart, and have just discovered Robert Sr had a son, Robert, born 1763 in Collessie.  So perhaps the entry you have for Christian Petrie alias Hall is wife of Robert Jr?  :-\

Hi that sounds like the right Christian - the alias details are limited number of letters unfortunately - so Hall could easily be Halley!!
