I have heard of Nell being a dimunitive but normally Helen, Eleanor, Ellen, but I have learnt anything is possible... you should see some of the variations I have had...

hope you find it out...

Best wishes

I don't know if Nellie is short for Elizabeth, but I've got two Nellies in my tree and they are Ellen and Eleanor.

Nellie is definitely not the usual shortened form of Elizabeth.

I think it would fairer to say "known as Nellie, real name Charlotte"   ;)

Lots of people are "known as x" when "x" is not anything like their real name.

I merely said Nellie is not actually short for Elizabeth - but Elizabeth may be known as Nellie.

And my name is not Elizabeth  ;)
