« on: Thursday 13 April 06 15:35 BST (UK) »
Hello Christopher
Iwas wondering if you could help, I am searching for a James Usher who I assume was born in Antrim all I know is that he married a Margaret McCloy in Antrim in 1821 they had four children Nancy, Mary, John, David Gray, the girls were born in Ireland and the boys were born in Scotland. THe Usher Line through John all ended up in Liverpool.
Look forward to hearing from you
Regards

Hello Mary Ellen,

There are three items required when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish.
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as your ancestors were born before Civil Registration was introduced in Ireland. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.
