Deskford, Banff Old Parish Records
« on: Wednesday 12 April 06 20:04 BST (UK) »
Hi Listers
Please does anyone have access to the old Parish Records for Deskford to help me identify the death of a 3x Gr Grandmother Jean Wilson (MS Milne) prior to December 1849. Jean Milne married Alexander Wilson in Deskford on 14/07/1804, but I believe that he married again on 27/12/1849 to Helen Grant. I would much appreciate any help in proving this.
Regards
David

If you look at http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/files/list-of-oprs-120to167.pdf you will see that the Deskford Parish Register does not list deaths or burials.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

This may be of little use but sometimes these clues lead you home !
On an old handwritten tree by my grt uncle who died in 1926 he has a Rev.Alex.Wilson.Milne born 1758 to John Milne" of Alvah" , Mill of Boyndie and Jean Milne "of Chapelton".He never married .
CORRECTION
Alas the handwritten tree had me fooled and I followed the wrong line to Rev Alex Wilson's parents. They are instead Janet Milne b 1732 and her husband
John Wilson. His mother not his father was the Milne from Mill of Alvah.
Abject apologies ,all. :-

Hello Fransmoi
Thank you so much for that very interesting snippet. Maybe there is a connection here? My Alexander Wilson was I believe a Crofter from info on his daughter's death certificate, which unfortunately doesn't give her mother's maiden name. There are also very many Alexander Wilsons in that area and I'm having the devel of a job to find the right one. Many thanks for your help and interest.
Regards
David

Tantan, I hope you;res still around because I am a direct descendant of Alexander Wilson and Jean Milne in Deskford. Alexander never married Helen Grant, I think it was in fact his cousin, because they lived in adjacent buildings at the Croft Of Aultmore, later to be called Braehead.

I'm interested in your connection with the family, because as far as I'm aware, my son, myself and my bachelor brither are the last males of the name descended from Alexander and Jean.

It's fascinating to hear from you and to find a relative from ancestors that far back. As I have it the first child of Alexander Wilson and Jean (Milne) was Margaret baptised 8/11/1805. She married a Donald McKenzie at Cullen on 13/10/1832 and their 6th child was Mary Forsyth McKenzie born Elgin 25/2/1843. Mary McKenzie married a John Templeton in Edinburgh on 1/7/1863 and their 4th child was Jessie Margaret Templeton, born 28/1/1875 who became my maternal Grandma. John Templeton was an Irish (Belfast) stonemason and they ended up in Kensington area of London where he committed suicide in 1882.
My Gran Jessie went to Somerset as a young girl teacher's assistant and married a Bertie Smith, they married 1897 and eventually settled in Wiltshire where I was born to their 5th child Kate Eliza May Smith.
I don't have my tree on a computor data base but would be interested to hear more from you and compare notes.

Tantan

Hi again,

I actually have your branch of the family on my tree already, and if you are in fact Mr. Bradfield, then we have definitely crossed paths before. However, it's almost certainly time you had some sort of tree on the computer, so E-mail me at (*) and I'll see if I can help you out on that front.

Graham
