I've done it again!!!
« on: Wednesday 12 April 06 19:00 BST (UK) »
Sorry to brag but I am so happy  ;D  ;D  ;D

Well it seems that April is our month for finding rellies I'm happy to announce.

After checking through the hot matches in GR ( a great site but still not as good as RC!!! ) I found a name which belonged to hubby's family. Checking the date on my program I noticed it matched the hot match right down to the middle name.

So an email was sent to the "owner" and guess what?

He is only the Grandson of hubby's Grandad's brother!!!

The most exciting part about it is that i have been searching for other members of the family for about 8 years and eventually got to thinking that they must have a) all emigrated to far flung places of the world with no internet access or b) been abducted by aliens ! I had sent letters and even contacted the newspapers and had no luck with any of them. There were 11 children altogether, hubby's gandad being the eldest. I had found one other brother's family but there were still 9 left to find.

After a few emails giving our "basic" outline of our side of the family and a few photos for his Auntie and Uncle (still living and in their late 70's) to look at,I ask for access for his tree. As that comes through and I start to look through, the phone rings and it's HIM!!

For 40 minutes we have sat and chatted (rambled on is closer as we were both so excited at finding each other's link lol) they are coming to visit on the 28th.

Well his wife and son are coming as they were coming for Football tournaments and he cannot get time off work. I even suggested a sicky but no go with that one as they already know he wanted the time off. So we have to wait to see him until after the Bank Holiday when we have time enough to visit them.

We have now gained at least another 4 1st cousins once removed,  8 second cousins and they have 26 children between them and 18 grandchildren.

So how is that for an additional branch - could be a tree of its own lol

Also found out that they have a Family Bible - fingers itching already lol - with plenty of info and that when Great Grandmother Jane died an old aunt took three of the youngest to Canada. (Is there a board for Canada on here? )

Two of the youngest brothers who had been separated found each other on the Kyber Pass when they were both fighting there. How fantastic is that? Just need to find out which ones.

So much info that we would have been on the phone for hours if we had carried on and he had to go as his tea was ready lol - Can't keep a starving man waiting can you?

Another good link was with our Burgoyne Family  I have found another 3rd cousin in Germany Pity it wasn't last month or the month before as he only lives about an hour from where we were staying in Germany when we went in March!

And this week another 3rd cousin on that side of the family has come through and lives only 30 miles away!

So once again I am on a high about family I have found.

Now all I need is someone to come along and say something bad to upset me lol

Don't care!  :P

Carol, well done - I'm well chuffed for you.  Although a slight shade of pea green with envy  ;D  Gosh a family bible - how I would love to get my grubby mits on one of those.  I bet you will get some photos too.

Enjoy your new found family!

Thanks Wheeldon

I will.

Had to laugh when you said you would love to get your grubby mitts on that! - exact same thought passed through my mind whenit was mentioned. Thought I had died and gone to heaven lol

Just wait till I see it in the flesh so to speak. the camera will be flashing like crazy. The poor Bible will be camera phobic by the time I've finished

Well, you wouldn't really want to get your grubby mitts on it.  Wash them first :P

Similarly, I'm trying to find descendants of siblings of my G Grandfather.  About a month ago someone contacted me and he turned out to be the son of one of his younger brothers.  Unfortunetely, no photos.  However I do have several leads to try.  I have found deaths of his siblings which are fairly recent (in the last 5 years or so).  I'm desperately trying to get photos as I don't have any from this side.

That is always the worst part isn't it Andrew?

Finding out they have died while you have been searching for them

Good luck with your leads and keep trying for the photos or haven't they got any?

It could be worse.  At least I can order certificates and get an address of the informant, which will probably be their son/daughter.  The person I have contacted on Genes Reunited has also told me of most of the wives of my G Grandfather's siblings and some of their children.  He said something along the lines of he didn't have any photos which he thought would be of any interest to me, which I presume means he only has photos of his father and not of his father's parents or siblings.  However it was a very strange feeling when he said he knew my G Grandparents and their children.  I didn't know my grandfather or his parents (or siblings for that matter) but it's strange when someone contacts you out of the blue and then goes on to say that he knew people who are a part of you, but who you never knew.  Although it's a bad thing the youngest of my G Grandfather's siblings have died, I have started my research long before most people do so I'm glad that I have elder relatives to talk to who can tell me information that can't be recorded on a census.

Congratulations on finding the new relatives though, I hope they, and the family bible, can provide you with priceless information!
