Iliffes of Cleckheaton 1841 census
« on: Tuesday 12 October 04 19:51 BST (UK) »
Would be most grateful for a look up on the 1841 census for William and Mary Iliffe. Their son was baptised in the parish of Birstall in 1806. There's just a possibility they may have survived that length of time. many thanks. Louisa

Hi Louisa

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Hi...

The area is quite hard to search without an index..... I have not come across this family yet...but have not forgotten you !

Next Saturday is the Pudsey Family History Fair - I will see if I can locate an index for the area while I am there.....which will be useful to me too !!

Thanks Kathy. Will keep my fingers crossed.I haven't had any success with Edward and Mary Iliffe other than the record of birth of their son William in 1806 and daughter Ann in 1802. they seem to have vanished into thin air!
Good luck with your own research Louisa.

Thanks for asking Ticker, much appreciated. No further forward I'm afraid. At a loss as to where I go from here, if anywhere! Louisa

Hi Louisa

Birstall is in the area covered by Kirklees Council.  I have now managed to find the details of the library you need - it is:

Huddersfield Local Studies Library
Princess Alexandra Walk
Huddersfield
HD1 2SU

Tel: 01484 221965

I rang them and they do have the census index for 1841 for Birstall.

Anybody able to get to the library for Louisa?  ;)

Or of course you may be able to find something on http://www.familyhistoryonline.net/ as Cleckheaton is available on that site for 1841.

Good luck

Thank you so much Ticker for suggesting Familhistoryonline. I tapped in the name I was researching but got no result, but when I tried just the surname a whole host of Iliffes appeared in that area. and there i'd been thinking they'd been eliminated!
So now I have to lash out on a pay voucher to check them out.
You know I'd given up on these ancestors, but thanks to you I'm hot on the trail again. Whats the saying "when one door closes....." Best wishes Louisa.

Hi Louisa

Glad it helped.  Hope you find what you're after.

I think the genealogists version of the saying "When one door closes..." goes "When one door closes, another one slams in your face!"  ;D ;D

I hope that doesn't happen in this case.

Look forward to hearing how you get on.

Best wishes
