William VIVASH birth lookup please
« on: Tuesday 11 April 06 17:31 BST (UK) »
My g.g.grandfather William Vivash born c1816 (he was 25 in the 1841 census, living in East Dean), mother possibly Sarah.  Most likely born in Romsey area or surrounding villages.  Trying to establish his father's name (and confirm his mother) - no luck so far.

Thanks

Hi cazzie,

Welcome to RootsChat.  :)

Have you seen this thread?

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,145533.0.html

I have looked for William's baptism but have drawn a blank around 1816.

But there are these recorded:

All baptised 25 Dec 1832 East Dean, mother Sarah, no father recorded:

Cornelius
Joseph - recorded as a bastard
Sarah
William - recorded as a bastard

No ages are given, but the original records (at Winchester) may help.

Nell

Hi Nell,

Thanks very much for the info.  This certainly looks like my family - my William did have brothers called Joseph and Cornelius (according to census records).

Wonder why Sarah got them baptised as a job lot (and on Xmas day too) - guilty conscience maybe!  The Vivash women seem to have had a habit of having illegitimate children  :o

Thanks again

Hi Caz and Welcome to Rootschat  :D

I understand that the Churches used to do Christenings on Christmas Day for free....so maybe that's why ???

Hi Wendi

Thanks for that - the fact that it may have been a freebie would explain a lot - the Vivashes were all ag labs, so no cash to flash.

I'll have to try to get to Winchester to see if they have any more details.

Winchester offer a research service, don't know where you are (your profile has no location filled in) but sometimes when you take in travelling, parking fees etc, it's as cheap !

Thanks Wendi,

I'm in Kent (profile updated!) but we often visit Selsey which isn't too far from Winchester (if I can drag a disinterested hubby along  ;D!), but failing that, I may well make use of their research service.

DEAR MEMBER

I AM ALSO RESEARCHING THE SURNAME VIVASH FROM EAST DEAN - MY INTEREST COMES LOUISA VIVASH WHO WAS MY GT GT GRANDMOTHER ALL I REALLY KNOW ABOUT HER IS THAT SHE WAS B IN 1850 AND IN 1874 SHE WAS MARRIED TO CHARLES HAYTER AND THEY LIVED IN TOTTON/ELING, I THINK THAT HER FATHER WAS WILLIAM VIVASH.  LET ME KNOW IF YOU THINK THERE COULD BE A CONNECTION.
