Hi meg

To save the pictures to your hard drive - right mouse click on the picture; choose 'save as' from the box and then stipulate where you want to save them to.

I have 4 or 5 of each house, taken from different angles - if you would like copies of them - send me your e-mail via private message and I will send them to you

Glad you like them

Hi Garry

Hi Chris, I was wondering if you could please do a couple more lookups(partic on the 1871 census)

1. William George Houghton married to a Amelia(nee Muckle), probably in London in 1871 if alive.

On the 1871 census on line there were:
104 William Houghtons listed, 50 of them associated with London, only 1 William G Houghton – but he is aged 3 years.
5 Amelia Houghtons listed all under 14 years of age.

2. David Hughes Somerville b 1840 Ireland, but living Middlesex in 1871. Married to Ann.

RG10/ 1330/ Folio 119/ Page 28 – Golders Green, Hendon, Middlesex

SOMERVILLE David H, Head, Marr, 30, Post Office Clerk, born Killkenny, Ireland
Ann E, Wife, Marr, 28, born Carlow, Ireland
Isabella, Dau, Unm, 7, born Carlow, Ireland
George Gerald, Son, Unm, 4, Carlow, Ireland
Henrietta, Dau, Unm, 2, born Camden Town, Middlesex
Arthur I, Son, Unm, 3, born Islington, Middlesex
                    + a 16year old domestic servant.

3. George(a butcher) and Amelia Eyres(Ayers). They would have been in their 70's if alive in 1871.

1871 census on line produced :
George Eyres in his 70’s – zilch
George Ayers in his 70’s -  1 match, aged 70 in Newington, London with his daughter Mary A Baras (45) and his granddaughter Mary Baras (12)
Amelia Eyres / Ayers – only 1 match aged 76, but married to a William aged 74

4. Robert McDonald and Margaret Ann (Turnbull)were living Berwick on Tweed in 1871.

Do not have access to this as yet.

5. William Turnbull and Jane(Robertson), parents of Margaret and poss still alive in B on T 1871.

Do not have access to this at present.

Hi Chris,

Wondering if you could find any info of George Tilt FIELD and wife Matilda... I've found them on 1881 & 1891 Census and Him with 2nd wife, Minnie in 1901 Census.
George Tilt was born in Bidborough (sic?) Kent abt 1850
Matilda FIELD nee MEWETT born in Willingdon, Sussex abt 1850
(Matilda died in 1892 in Eastbourne)
They lived at 25 Leslie Street, Eastbourne in 1891 census
122 Seaside, Eastbourne in 1881 Census

George remarried to Minnie Louisa Bourn(e) b. Balcombe 1871 in 1894, Eastbourne, they too lived at 25 Leslie Street.

I'd be appreciated if you could find ANY info on anyone..

Thanks in advance,

Tracy

It looks as though the MEWETT surname was very poplar in the Willingdon / Eastbourne Area as there are over 40 of them in the 1851 census and looking back at the 1841 there are over 30 of them there as well.

How certain are you about Matilda’s birth date as there is a 4 year old Matilda MEWETT in Willingdon in 1851, daughter of Moses and Maria, although I can not spot Moses who would have been about 20 in the 1841 census.

Will give you more details if you think they are relevant.

As regards the other names you mentioned – afraid I do not have any data on any of them as yet.

Hi Chris,

Well on the 1891 Census there's Matilda Field nee Mewett aged 41 so I presumed that she was born in the 1850s and she died in 1892 aged 43

Hi Chris and fellow family historians.

I've been fortunate to be able to follow my maiden name PLAYFORD back to 1690.
SEDLESCOMBE was our home for a good few generations . I do have holes in places, mainly on twigs . Also a big branch of the family in the 1830's were from BECKLEY and sailed off to the land of OZ.

I wondered Chris if it would be poss to trace the steps of JAMES PLAYFORD ( my 3 x grt grandpa)  born 12 Dec 1813 SEDLESCOMBE married 18 Feb 1838 a Ann BALLARD they had 7 children. Henry 1839, Jabez 1846, Thomas 1852 ( my 2 x grt Grandpa) , George 1853 , James 1854, Albert 1856, John 1860.

I have noted some large gaps in years between them and can  only guess a few children may have died along the way.

Any help would be grately appreciated. Many thanks.
Much Happiness
For every ancestor I find , I have to find two more.
