Most churches will have a list of the incumbants, usually up on the wall somewhere, but not much more than that unless there are snippets about them in the actual register.  Often when they died it might say a bit about them with the burial register entry.

Thanks very much for that, might try and contact the vicar sometime to get access into the church. So sad isn't it nowadays that you can't just walk into a church whenever you want to.

Thanks again

Sorry to jump in on this link but as its about Crockfords Clerical Directory -

I am trying to find out about Reverend John Storr who once lived in the Goildenhill area Stoke on Trent, as for period circa 1840-1880.  I think Goldenhill St. John's would be the church but not certain.

Would someone please be kind enough to see if he's mentioned and maybe he served at other churches no doubt?  He married into the Tunstall family I am researching, his son was Thomas Norton Tunstall Storr.
regards Gareth

He is not in the 1865 one.  Sorry.   May have been too young.

Thanks for looking Andrea,
Oops, had another look at my family history project and he married 1812 in Wolstanton St, Margarets and was dead by 1841 census, sorry but I thought he was alive later than that.  Reminds me to be more accurate next time I post a message.  Thanks for looking.  Regards Gareth

Thanks Ruthie
his name was John Storr and I beleive he was a reverend sometime circa 1812-1841 period in Goldenhill and possibly elsewhere.  I am sorry its so broad but information so far is brief from census, I know he was a clerk beforehand.
thanks Gareth

Sorry, no sign of him in our 1897 Crockfords. Probably a bit too late. There was another John Storr, but he was priested in 1868.

Hi Gareth,

I just had a look at http://eagle.cch.kcl.ac.uk:8080/cce/index.html without realising that it was actually part of the same site mentioned in an earlier posting on this thread (http://www.theclergydatabase.org.uk/).

In any case, I did a quick search for a John Storr and it mentions one who was a curate in Horsley (Derbys, but in the same diocese as Stoke on Trent) in 1821. Could this be the person you are looking for? I have no idea whether clergy would have moved about much between different appointments back in those days.

I hope this might be of some help.

Regards,
Yeardelye
