Hi nan

exciting stuff !  I found your 2 baptisms - one was unclear so, I had a look with one of the Archivists at the original records - and have both childrens dates of births,

No. 659  St Peters.  Leeds Parish Church

Baptism  30th April 1826  Isaac son of Jonathan & Sarah CHARLESWORTH
of Nelson Street - Cloth dresser. (in margin - born 6th April 1826)

No. 1518 St Peters, Leeds Parish Church

Baptism 31st August 1828  Martha  daughter of Jonathan & Sarah CHARLESWORTH  of  Nelson Street - Cloth dresser
(in margin - born 14th August 1828)

While I was there I looked in the marriage index - there are numerous Charlesworth's - but no sign of Jonathan & Sarah......they must have married elsewhere.

Wow " I have surprised myself.

Nelson Street was demolished to make way for the present day East Street.

I have had a look on the 1841 census for Leeds - they are no longer living in Nelson Street (which is not surprising really !)

Hi Nan

I think that your Charlesworths are the ones I'm researching. My ancestor, Mary Ann Charlesworth was born in Leeds, daughter of Henry Charlesworth. They moved to London sometime before 1851, when Henry's son was born in London. They were living in St Giles Cripplegate. I think that Henry may be Isaac's brother, as well as the brother of William.

William was born in about 1812 and I have his marriage certificate which shows his father as Jonathan, a cloth draper. William was born in Honley. He moved to London sometime before 1847, which is when he got married in Lambeth. He was a tobacco manufacturer.

Henry was born in about 1819, in Leeds. He was also a tobacconist.

My reasoning is that 3 men, all born in Yorkshire, all ending up in London, all in the tobacco trade, must be related. Also, William and Isaac give their father's name as Jonathan and give him the same trade. I just haven't got Henry linked to them yet (I only discovered him in the 1861 census this week).

The reason you might not have found Jonathan and Sarah in Leeds might be that they married in Honley?

Hi Cabby
Yes they are one and the same.  Please e mail me on janette1956@aol.com. Would be interested in Henry's line down, I do have a little information on him.  Plus any other information you have.  I can fill you in on Isaac's children Frederick and descendents plus others.  I am glad you have come across Honley because I knew there was a connection and couldn't find it.

Hi

My name is Amanda and I have just stareted researching the name Charlesworth.

I am decended from Henry and Sarah Charlesworth, who moved to Cripplegate, London.

Their daughter Elizabeth Charlesworth married John Walter Dawe, and they had Samuel Dawe who was my Great Grandfather.

Samuel Dawe married Maud Weeks, and they had my Grandmother Lillian Annie Dawe in 1902 on London.

Would ove to share information with you.

Best wishes

Amanda

Hi
I know this is an old thread but I have just been chatting to my cousin and she is having difficulty tracing her fathers dad Christien/ Christian Charlesworth. It is believed he was born in Yorkshire C1895 and then the family moved to London. He married an Eleanor Neville.
Do any you have a Christian in your trees at all

Many thanks

Hi Cal
My line of Charlesworth's came down to London in the mid 1800's.  I will have a look for you in my odd bits of Charlesworths and see if I can find anything.
