« on: Thursday 06 April 06 06:22 BST (UK) »
If any kind person has a minute or five to spare at the Norfolk Record Office and has the Swannington baptisms available could you please see if there is a baptism of a John Green c1785, I would like the date also the parents, John had a sister Margaret I guess born around the same time, she had departed prior to the 1851 census but her husband John Guymer was living with his niece Emily Fuller nee Green ( John's daughter) at Reepham 1851.
Thank You, Dennis

Hello Dennis,

I've only just seen your message about John Green of Swannington and have a couple of census entries for Swannington in 1851 which may be of use to you.

John Green aged 66 widower, Ag Lab, Born about 1785 Swannington.

John is listed as having a son James, born about 1828 Swannington, aged 23, Ag lab.

You may well have these entries already but I also notice you have the names Buck and Seaman in your list of interests.

I have a Robert Buck and Mary Seaman in the "Green" section of my family tree. These Greens of Swannington are descended from Abigail Buck, daughter of Robert Buck. Are we researching different branches of the same family?

Regards

Margaret

Hello Peter,

I thought a descendant of the Greens would turn up sooner or later as they were quite "productive" shall we say.

I'm descended from Eliza Green b. 1830 who married Watts Austin in 1852 in Swannington. They eventually moved to South Shields, Durham, where their daughter, Eliza Sarah Austin, married my g.grandfather, John Vallack.

Eliza was the daughter of George Green and Frances Tipple m. 1820 Diss. George Green b 1794 was one of the many children of Thomas and Abigail Buck.

I have quite a lot of other information about Thomas and Abigail's descendants and would be interested to hear which line you're descended from.

Regards

Margaret

Hello Margaret,

Thomas and Abigail were my 5xgreat grandparents via their eldest (of 11) Barnard b 1778, Swannington who m on 5 Jun 1804 in Swannington Sarah FITT b ca 1779.

My line is via Barnard's 2nd (of 4) William Christopher c 12 Jan 1807, Swannington who m Elizabeth b ca 1815 Great Witchingham.

I do not know Elizabeth's surname or the date of their marriage or the name of their 2nd (of 5) who is my 2xgreat grandfather. Their children were:

Sarah b ca Dec 1843
Unknown b bef 1847
Miriam b ca Dec 1846
Henry b ca 1849
Leanne (?) b ca 1853

What information do you have about Thomas and Abigail apart from their marriage? Do you know anything about their parents?

My grandmother Miriam May GREEN was born and lived in Swannington with my father until 1924 when they moved to the next village.

Over to you ...

Regards
Peter

As I started this Green merry go round off I guess I should make an update, ( If anyone wishes to say "Well every Norfolk village had a Green " I have already heard it !! I recently joined Ancestry com and have found the said John living at Reepham the reason I have not found him before is the fact he is listed as Jonathan, this does not help as I do not have a Jonathan that fits on file any way so it is still a plea for HELP, As we are all aware there were at least two families of Greens at Swannington, Thomas and Abigail Buck and my tribe, Charles and Elizabeth Mountain who I believe originated in Hevingham which is 5 miles from Swannington, I wonder if these two tribes are connected originally.
I have found a later interconnection of the families when Alfred 1852 (one of Thomas's descendants) married Matilda Jobson in 1875 this Matilda was one of my line born 1856 the daughter of Eliza(beth) Green who leads back to Charles and Elizabeth.
Any advance on Jonathan aka John 1785 ish will be received with gratitude    Dennis

Hello Dennis,

I'm afraid that I don't have an answer for you - just a question:

How is Alfred's father George GREEN (b ca 1821 Swannington, d 1892 m 1851 Swannington Sarah LONG b 1822 Aylsham) related to Thomas and Abigail GREEN? Could you please post George's parents.

Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter,
1st cab off the rank from where did you get Long as the surname of Georges bride? I have it as March I cannot find a suitable Long in the 1841 census I have a March at Aylsham age given as 26 as is normal for the 1841 census, in 1851 a Sarah March was a servant in the rectors house at Swanninngton aged 23 born Aylsham, according to Ancestry com George Green appears in the marriage records as doing the deed in the Jun Q St Faiths Reg Dist Vol 13 Page 211 Sarah March Jun Q St Faiths Reg Dist Vol 13 page 211, SNAP? I have George bapt 4 Nov 1820 one of 11 children of John Green bapt 2 Jul 1793 ( he dead prior 1841) and Elizabeth Gilliam born 1788 at Gimmingham departed at Swannington 1856, now the SNAP here it is at In 1851 George Green single aged 31 Ag Lab was living with this Elizabeth at Upgate Swannington, I also make it out that John the 1793 one was the 15th child of Thomas and Abigail Buck ( Must have been no TV in those days!!) as it is said I rest my case Mi Lud any comments
Dennis,
PS Even though I now live in OZ my childhood was spent wandering the pleasant fields of Norfolk and I remember the air base at Swannington well.

Hello Dennis,

thanks for your reply. LONG was a typo from another ongoing investigation - MARCH is correct and I agree with your information. Sorry about that.

Elizabeth GREEN was alive if not kicking in 1861 aged 72 living with her son George and his wife Sarah (1861/1208/55/9). I therefore conclude that the Elizabeth GREEN death registered in St Faiths (4b 5[16]) in Sep 1856 was another.

I only know of the following 12 Thomas & Abigail GREEN  offspring (all events Swannington unless stated):

 Barnard c 31 Oct 1778, d after 1841, m 5 Jun 1804 Sarah FITT
 Stephen c 26 Dec 1779, d after 1851, m Q4 1840 Rebecca SMITH
 Ann c 7 Oct 1782, d bef 1785
 Ann c  1 Feb 1785
 Tabitha Abigail c 17 Jun 1786
 Frances c 15 Jun 1787
 Mary Tabitha c 4 Oct 1790
 Kezia b 13 Oct 1791, d after 1851, m David WILKINSON
 John c 2 Jul 1793, d bef 1841, m 16 Aug 1814 Elizabeth GILLAM
 George c 11 Sep 1794, d after 1861, m 26 Dec 1820 Diss Frances TIPPLE
 Elizabeth c 10 Oct 1795
 William c 18 Feb 1797

which 3 extra do you have? Do you have any other marriage info?

Also, if you could supply the other 10 siblings of George c 1820, then I could presumably connect most of the stray Swannington GREENs that I have on file and spend some time with my wife!

Regards from the Rhineland
Peter
