Hi Migky
Just to let you know I have had a reply from the CCRS giving me details of when my Dad was admitted to Hollymount and subsequently discharged. It also mentions that Dad came under the Manchester Union branch of workhouses. I dont know if this is a standard entry for all Hollymount admissions or whether it's suggesting his mother was in a workhouse.
His grandmother's burial records give the address 20 Nell Lane and records show she was an inmate rather than a patient at Withington. I can't help wondering why Dads mother might possibly be in a workhouse when his father was in the forces, surely he was earning a wage? His last known address along with the grandmother before she went to the workhouse are the same and the grandfather was still alive so I assume he was living there too. I need to do more digging I think.
Anyway, I received the book 'A labour of love'. It was really interesting to see the pictures but some of the stories didnt relate to Dads memories! I dont recall him saying his time at Hollymount was happy!
