Dungarvan, Waterford
« on: Wednesday 05 April 06 15:14 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

After a bit of advice really.  I've found out that my ancestor was born in Dungarvan, Waterford in 1833.  I have absolutely no idea where to go to from here.    Any pointers?   :D

Kind regards
English Jen.

Hiya Jen,

Happy Easter.

Would this ancestor be a Sheehan or one not on your list ???
Griffiths Valuations of Ireland http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php (The Waterford Valuation took place in 188 - 51) may be of some assistance to you although the Valuations took place after the birth of your ancestor. It is possible to find a connection and work back to the time your ancestor was born. The list shows several heads of household with the Sheehan surname living in Dungarvan.

All the Best, Chris

Hi Chris

Thanks for the link.  Unfortunately I only know that the Daniel Sheehan that was born in 1833 - his father's name was Michael.  That's it - that's all I have to go on, no other siblings or anything.  Any other ideas?

Kind regards
English Jen.

Jen,
You could always try writing to the two local papers, which are the Dungarvan Leader and The Observer.  If you want I will give you the e-mail address for each of them.  Just add in the information that you have.  It has worked before.  Also, I live in Dungarvan and if I can help in any way, I will. The local hospital is where the records of birth, deaths and marriages are kept and I will be pleased to help if I can - free of charge. Cáit

Hi Cait

What a lovely offer thank you.  Yes, email addresses for the papers might work, although I have so little information and Sheehan is quite a common name over there.

I thought all the records had been destroyed for around that time?

Kind regards
English Jen.
