Bell Antrim circa 1840-1900
« on: Tuesday 04 April 06 08:18 BST (UK) »
Searching for information on John Bell (farm labourer) who married Margaret Fitzsimmons. Their son William John Bell, born circa 1879, married in Glasgow, Scotland, 1901 (John Bell already deceased and Margaret remarried Cooke(?)). Unable to find any records of John Bell and Margaret Fitzsimmons marriage or birth of son William on Scots Origins or official Scottish records - only marriage of son William.

Assuming then that John and Margaret are recorded in Ireland. Names and approx birth and marriage years recorded in Ulster records.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Paul.

Aghadowey

Even after so long, very remiss of me not to have thanked you for your contribution  :-[

After further research I found that Bocombra is located on the Old Lurgan Road and not very far from Lurgan. An aunt was able to confirm that William John Bell (the son), who was her grandfather, came from the Lurgan area, though she wasn't too sure of exact location, and I also found photographs of my mother, her sister, on holiday in 1947 in parts of Belfast very close to that area too.

William John Bell (the son) married a Lizzie Sewell in Glasgow in 1901. Their marriage record showed that Lizzies parents were a Joseph Sewell and Ann Creany, and that Lizzie's age gave an estimated birth year of circa 1880. The 1911 Census records for Glasgow also confirmed that William Bell and Lizzie Sewell were born in Ireland. Further research on the Family Search website produced a record of an Elizabeth Sewell born in late 1879 and her parents were given as Joseph Sewell and Ann Creany, and she was born in Lurgan.

So, aghadowey thanks for your lead. It opened up a new avenue for me and and regenerated my interest in this family branch. Thank you.  ;)

kingskerswell

Many thanks for your posts.

Remarriage of Joseph Sewell and Ann Creaney this appears to match the details I found on FamilySearch today.

Re marriage of WJ Bell and Margaret Fitzsimmons I have detail of a record from FamilySearch website which shows a William John Bell marriage in Lurgan, Civil Registration, in 1877.

Can you advise from where your information has been collected? Also which websites would you recommend for searches on Ireland genealogy, and if they are free or payable.

Thank you.
