Lookup for a David Watt, Edinburgh
« on: Tuesday 04 April 06 00:12 BST (UK) »
Hello, I'm trying to locate the birth, or census info for a David Wishart Watt born approx. 1852 in Edinburgh. In 1881 onwards he appears in the English census.

I dont know much more about his early days or his parents names. His occupation was a tailor, Im not sure if he took his father occupation or not.

Thank you,
Jeff

Anne,

thanks for the reply, looks like I'll have to order his marriage cert., in hopes that he listed his fathers name and occupation.

Jeff,

My father in law was David Wishart Watt and he was born in Edinburgh in 1920. His father was Dashwood Wishart Watt born/baptised 2 April 1875 in Leith, Midlothian (from LDS). His parents were David Wishart Watt and Maria Parsons. Could this be the same David Wishart Watt you are looking for?
From the latter Day Saints I also found an Agnes Gordon Watt b 24 Jan 1863, daughter of David Wishart and Elizabeth Gordon, Leith.

There are others in the family. David Wishart Watt married 3 times and had many children. Hope this may help you. Please reply if this info is relevant.

Cowcher,

Many thanks for the reply. I'm at work so I dont have all my info infront of me.

David W. Watt married Elizabeth Evans ( nee Spencer), I beleive the marriage was in  the late 1870's in Liverpool. In the 1891 census the are living at 22 Whitehead st. Blackburn LAN. Both died in the mid 1930's, still living in Blackburn.

Regards,
Jeff

Hi, I have been trying without much success to research my own family history, and think that I may be related to the people mentioned in previous posts.
I have copied here below, an email I have sent to Dr. David McCullen who has also been rearching the Watt family history.
I hope that this information may help correlate to the research you have already done.
I look forward to hearing any positive replies in respect of this.

Hello Dr McCullen,
My name is David Watt; I have seen with interest your blog titled 'So much history on a single stone'.
I have been trying, without much success, to trace my own family history.
I googled the name David Wishart Watt and came up with a site called RootsChat.com (to which I have now registered as a user). On this site, it is shown a post by jeffspencer in Baltimore, Maryland USA, to which there is a post reply which shows that there was a David Watt living at 22 Whitehead Street, Blackburn Lancashire.
I myself, and my parents (both now sadly deceased) have always lived in Blackburn Lancashire.
From the little research I have done, I know that my own grandparents lived close to Whitehead Street (at 167 Downham Street, Blackburn), where my father was actually born. There is also a mention of Liverpool by jeffspencer.
I was told many years ago that my great, or possibly my great great grandparents originated from Scotland and also I have heard mention that at some point in the late 1800's or early 1900, that my predecessors may have lived for a time in Liverpool.
Could this David Wishart Watt possibly be one of my predecessors?
I have attached my family tree, which I hope, you may be able to correlate with whatever information you already have, in the hope that I can extend the Watt family tree further than what I have done.
I look forward to hearing from you.
David Watt.

Cowcher,

I think we're related! David Wishart Watt was the half brother of James Walker/Walker Black who is my mother's paternal grandfather.

Looking up the family tree is very new to me, but would be very interested to connect to see if we can pool some information.

All the best,

James
