The Bayley family of Willaston Hall

Thank you all so much for the extra information. I have a very old picture of Willaston Hall as it used to be, surrounded by land and huge trees.

The Willaston Hall estate was sold by auction on 2 November 1964

That's a better date all I can remeber is when I had driving lessons in 1967, we used to end up at Willaston Hall and it was undergoing 'renovation'.

Most probaby bought by a local estate agent.

Here is the Hall in 1964 at the time of the sale. Not really changed much.

I have a lot of contracts , Abstracts of Title etc in relation to lands bought by my great grandfather.
One lot was bought off Maria Bayley in 1863 , other lots from Ralph Sneyd esq who is described as being the Lord of the Manor of Willaston. There’s some link between the Bayleys and the Sneyds

How interesting! I wasn't aware that Maria Bayley had sold off land to the Birchall family. I'm guessing this was the same family of Birchall that lived on a farm on Colley's Lane, Willaston? A Sarah Birchall lived at Brassey Hall I seem to remember in the mid 19th century. The title deeds to this last property I found on ebay. These deeds I deposited at the county archive in Chester. I made a copy of the 1863 auction catalogue and I have the map too. Maria Bayley acquired about 100 acres from Ralph Sneyd. I don't know of any link between the Bayleys and Sneyds other than business.

I am making a detailed search of the Crewe Chronicle and have found many references re the Birchall family especially in relation to land owned by Birchall which the council wanted to acquire so they could put down sewers.

Sarah was my GG grandmother , wife of Charles Birchall farming as tenants of Ralph Sneyd at Brassey Hall. My great grandfather Edward had this tenancy passed to him on Charles’ death, he then saw his chance to purchase Dairy House Farm , Colley’s Lane from Ralph Sneyd in 1861,  also some other small parcels of land. The indentures are beautiful hand written documents, the abstracts being very detailed going back to the 18th century. I would be interested in seeing any documents you have discovered. You’re correct in saying the link between Sneyds & Bayleys was of a business nature

I think the Brassey Hall documents would be of interest to you. I gave these to the RO in Chester several years as I had no need of them.  The said deeds are really rather interesting as at least several have maps annexed showing the extent of the Brassey Hall estate.  This farm was sold in 1863 by Sneyd.  I have the auction catalogue and would be more than happy to send you images if you are interested.  Do please feel free to contact me for any more help I can give.
