??? Hi BMD's were not registered in Scotland until 1855, so your best bet would be the parish church registers! unless he is shown on the IGI!

sorry for lack of help!

Well, theory says that he lived until 1853.

Was he shown as deceased by the time of Robert's marriage?  That would narrow the time frame to search for a death.

What about the 1861 census - was he alive then?  If so, gives an even narrower time frame for a death.

If he died after 1855, his parents' names will be given (if known by the informant) on the certificate.

Let's hope he died after 1855  ;)

Thanks guys for replies
He was alive in 1863 when his son Robert got married(according to the cert.) and youngest son George was born 1856
I have tried to get his death and marriage cert on scot people but have drawn a blank.Tried IGI nothing  ???
also an 1861 and 1871 census  nothing. ???

If all else fails I will just have to go to Edinburgh soon.

Have just read on Margaret's death cert he was a railway gatekeeper near Creiff (which has just reminded me that my grandfather talked about
" Robbies Box" )which was around Amulree area which turned out to be I believe a signal box.)I'm full of trivia lacking in facts for this one LOL
Thanks agian ;D

I forgot to say he was born in Logierait Perthshire Scotland

Lots of Robert Munro's in the 1861 1871 census but  none born in the correct place,
Also have a Robert died in 1875  in Alness but there is another Robert Munro from that area married to Margaret from Co Donegal  Ireland about the same age so I have to find the marriage cert for proof.
going to bed now night all :-\

;D I have yet to find more than 2 census' that show the same place of birth!! but that might be because mine where all illiterate irish immigrants Lol. Have only managed to track them with the weirdest spelling you can think of on the surname and the less common first name of the known family!

Good luck.

;D ;D ;D I'm so happy LoL
Hi all thought I would update you on how I am getting on.
I have found Robert Munro's death Cert
18 March 1877 in Methven in Perth
I searched today for him and low and behold he appeared as if by magic on SP.
Have also been in contact with a researcher in South Africa who also shares this line ,although on the Taylor side, so I was able to get more info there.
Robert's parents are Marjory Robertson and David Munroe.
thanks again for your help and encouragement

Happy hunting to you all

Hi folks,

Can't help much with the geneology but:

"Robbies Box" is located in Crieff, Perthshire, down the road from the High School. The railway, signal box and level crossing are long gone but the signalman's cottage (extended since railway days) is still lived in and has a modern day "Robbie's Box" sign on it.

Of course there could have been more than one "Robbies Box" in the area....
