Having traced the rest of the family in 1901 census, I have suddenly realised that my great great uncle is not there.
I have checked and checked again on ancestry website - all variations/spellings etc - even initials in case he was in an asylum (where I did find one relation).
As far as I am aware he was not in the army. I would welcome any suggestions as what may have happened to him, where I could search further - or if anyone has come across him!!!
James Joseph Quarry born November 1879 at Merry Hill Lane, Bushey.
Son of James and Annie. He is with the family on the 1881 census (Merry Hill Lane) and 1891 (The Rookery, Watford). In 1901, only his siblings Fred, Ada and Rose were with the parents at 136 Liverpool Rd, Watford.
James married Clara Louisa Fowler in 1906 at Watford Registry Office. ( address given as 12 Liverpool Road, Watford) He died in June 1913.
Occupation was a general labourer/engineers labourer.
This may be a shot in the dark, but anything is worth a try!
Many thanks in advance
Jan
