Buckley Doncaster or Barnsley 1841/register lookup please
« on: Wednesday 29 March 06 09:55 BST (UK) »
Can someone help with an 1841/register lookup of this family please.

I'm trying to identify James Buckley married to Sarah Conway sometime around 1840 I think.  I have them from earlier family research with two children Ann Elizabeth Buckley born:1840 Marsh Gate, Doncaster and Emma Buckley 1844 born Doncaster.  The nearest match I can find in the 1851 Census is

James Buckley age 41 in Barnsley Yorks
Sarah age 38 in Honley Yorks

Children all born Barnsley.

Thomas age 14
Ann age 10
William age 8
Hannah age 5
Sarah age 2.

This looks the right family but I had birthplace of Ann Elizabeth and Emma as Doncaster.

There is a death of Emma Buckley in 1847 in Bradford from the free BMD but there are a lot of Buckley,s so this may not be the right one

Can anyone see the family in the 1841 census and does it shed any light on why I had Emma and Elizabeth born in Doncaster

Does anyone have access to the parish registers to confirm that Sarah's maiden name was Conway?

Many thanks

Help please ..... I'm really not sure I'm doing the right thing can someone give me a second opinion.

I have now found Emma age 17  in 1861 visiting her sister Ann age 22 and husband George Kemp  age 29- and here their birthplace is down as Doncaster for both females which is what I had from earlier research but at odds with the 1851 family above. I am certain this is the correct Emma and Ann.

So the issue I have is that the family that I have found in the 1851 census above put Barnsley as birthplace not  Doncaster and Emma was nowhere to be seen in '51.  The fit is otherwise good with Sarah, James and Ann including ann's DOB.   I can find no other family in the 1851 that matches at all.   Have I got the correct family??

Then again in the '61 I have Sarah age 50 as a widow with
Hannah age 14
Mary age 9
Sarah age 12
and William age 17

All in Barnsley and all saying Birthplace Barnsley and clearly the same family as I found in '61.   No Emma or Ann but see above.

Any ideas welcome
