Another neat thing about your four is they cover the territory - Glasgow to London, and
New York - San Francisco.
(think of those key cities when they were there and the changes over the years).
Zelley,  Lovell, Godbold, Woods, Phillips, Lewis, Emery,
Magee, Baker, White. Flisher, Kyne, Tilston, Valence/Vallens,
Mabb/Mabbe, Bellamy, Selley, Martha Smith, Arno (of Dartmouth, Devon}.

The ancestors lived here and there, in many scattered
places, with various occupations

My great grandmothers are.....

Sarah Elvina Button born 3rd August 1874 Barking Essex
Emily Elizabeth Selway born 1848 Bath Somerset (still waiting for her Birth certificate)
Mary Ellen Coles born 25th January 1866 Raunds Northamptonshire
Lydia Tomblin Clarke born 3rd July 1858 in Market Overton, Rutland

I can go back
1 generation from Sarah Elvina Button
2 generations from Emily Elizabeth Selway
Several generations from Mary Ellen Coles
1 generation from Lydia Tomblin Clarke

They all only married once and both Sarah and Emily migrated as children with their parents to Australia - Sarah in 1878 and Emily in 1848 as a very young baby.

Mary Ellen's eldest daughter married the third son of Lydia and they migrated to South Oz as a young married couple in 1911.

The only one I don't have a photo of is Lydia. She died as a youngish woman aged just 45 - as a result of childbirth.

Zelley -

Have been to two of of the four cities --- London and New York, and lived in San Francisco for a few years.

I have seen significant changes in those cities and I can only imagine what my relatives did, saw and lived through.

Hope to get to Glasgow next summer ....

Found my four too!

Lydia Sarah Banks        1872-1948 b Old Stratford, Warks
Sarah Jane Wilkes        1869-1960 b West Bromwich, Staffs

Elizabeth Palmer           1865-         b Bristol
Martha Phipps               1849-1924 b Bristol

I love the name Lydia Sarah, sounds so soft and gentle....don't think she was though!

Martha Phipps sounds hard and bossy, but don't know much about her.

Funny how we respond to names, do others find themselves doing this or is it just me being fanciful?

Sue
