Elizabeth Ann Jefferson[/b]b 1873 South Shields,Durham d 1907 Co Durham( My Grandfather was 1)
It's such a shame that Elizabeth died so young. Stepping back in time we may hear the echoes of the whispering of the old widow
Mary Pearson, the clay worker of Mill Street somewhere in a
small town in Co Durham. Maybe it would have been after a day
of hard work moulding clay at the glass works. Would she be chatting with the widow Elizabeth Miller while the
Jefferson, Wood and Adams children played hop scotch on the street as young William Surtees was heading home after
a day of sweeping a chimney or two.
One never knows but the children of the 1870's and 1880's
are long gone, but the great grandchildren can step back in time
and think about the life and times of the Mill Street folks,
the work of Mr Jefferson in the meat trade. Or, the next time
you mold some clay at the local community centre art fair
think of old Mary PEARSON and the great granparents
when they were young and Mill streets future along with
the Scottish & Irish folks as they danced and sang.
Then think of the song "The Last Rose" in memory of a great grandmother that died so young but her legacy remains
in the hearts and minds of a dear great grandchild of today.
