I have all 4 of mine, pretty easy for 3 of them as they died in pretty recent history and I remember one of them, however I know have a picture of the one I had never even heard of, she is probably my favourite and most intriguing one of my ancestors so far.

Rosina Edith Gower      - 1872 - 1951
Eliza Doris Magee         - 1912 - 1986
Winifred Lilian Herrick   - 1906 - 1981
Bridget Hoey/Hoy         - 1901 - 1981

Winifred was born in London and died a few weeks before I was born, Bridget was born in Sligo and dies a few weeks after I was born. Eliza was born in Stockport, I have fond memories of visiting as a child, we called her GranGran.

Rosina as you can see was 30 years older than the next oldest, she was born in London in a workhouse although they where only there for a week.

Now I have put these 4 down in one list I have realised that they have been some of the most enjoyable to find out about so far.

What lovely pictures there are on this thread.     I like the idea of highlighting great grandmothers in this way.   They're a real bridge to the part of the past that we know only on paper - so near in some ways because of our own grandmothers' memories.

My four were Mary Devlin from  Toomebridge County Antrim, Mary Malone originally from Lurgan but married, lived and died in Glasgow and Kate and Margaret Kennedy from Little Island  County Cork.    Kate and Margaret emigrated to London in the 1880s and subsequently  Kate's son married Margaret's daughter, so my maternal grandparents were first cousins.
Toomebridge, County Antrim: Devlin
Toomebridge and Cavan:  McCormick
Glasgow, Wolverhampton, Shropshire:   Hill
Lurgan Co. Armagh:  Malone, Dumigan, McCourt, McGill
St. Pancras, and Poplar, London: Serjeant, Heald
Brookborough Co. Fermanagh:  Carmichael, Tierney
Staffordshire:  Cook
Isle of Wight:   Parkman
Warwickshire:  Kinchin
Cork: Kennedy, Ahern, Deliere

A British Islander, born Dublin of Irish/Anglo roots. Ancestors have crossed and recrossed the Irish sea in every generation.

Ha!   It's only when doing the poll about 'have you traced each of them back a generation' that I notice that I've done that thing that we all do.      Mary Devlin was my grandmother - it was her mother Mary McCormick who was my great grandmother.       Poor Mary Devlin seems so much further away because she was only 29 when she died of TB in 1916.
