Mine's the daughter of John Holden (1836-bef. 1884) and Betty Duckworth (1840-1878)

It is virtually obligatory to have been called Holden in Darwen in the 19th century.

It's kind of sad that Alice died so young.
Hopefully, a short story could be told
of her contribution to your family tree.
It would be nice if there was a picture of Alice.

Hello Zelley,

A little about Alice.  She married at twenty to George Dob(p)son in 1853 in Hungerford and had three children in 1853, 1855 and 1858 and died in 1860.  Her mother was Jane Tubb who produced three illegitimate daughters!  According to family she never married.

After the death of Alice the three children aged 7, 4 and 2 went to live with their grandmother, Jane, and Great Grandparents Charles and Elizabeth Tubb.  Life must have been very hard - both GGparents were around 75 and their GMother was 47.  The youngest child, Joseph, was working on a farm at 12 as a plough boy and joined the Kings Own Royal Regiment and saw active service aged 17 in the Zulu war in South Africa.  The rough start in life did not prevent him from marrying, producing 11 children all of whom were alive at his Golden wedding in 1936.  Joseph died in 1945 aged 87.

One day, when the lottery comes my way, and I can invest in more certificates Alice will be one of the first!  I am interested to know the cause of her death.

George married again in 1863 and started a new life with wife and two children , one of whom died aged one year.
The other two children of Alice went their own way marrying and producing 12 children between them.  Charles died aged 77 and Ellen aged 84.

And sorry no photographs of anyone before Joseph, thanks for your interest, Happy New Year,
Abiam

The name RUDKIN is a famous name in sports.
England's Alan Rudkin was an outstaning boxer
in the Sixties.
In 1965, he went the distance with Japan's
world champion Fighting Harada in Tokyo

Any connection between Mary Jane Rudkin and Alan Rudkin.
