I had one great-grandma still alive in my lifetime - I was lucky enough to meet her once. She lived in England I was lucky enough to meet her when I went there at age 18.

What's fascinating for me is how my great-grandmas show what a mixture I am

Charlotte Sophia SIZER b. 1866  Tasmania
Paula Marie Josephine Jeanette SPECKEN b. 1875 in the Netherlands
Theresa Alice WAGNER (the one I was lucky enough to meet) b. 1888 in Surrey
and
Florence WRIGHT who died very young :( b.1885 in Idle in Yorkshre.

So I have great-grandmas from 3 different countries.

GRACE, HADLEY, ION,MURFET(T), SIZER, WALTERS, WISE - Tasmania,

BATTY, COLE,  GIBBS, GIBBINS/GIBBONS, GODDARD, GURNEY, HUGHES, JONES, LEE, PENNY, TROWER, WHALE, WILSHAW, WOODCOCK
New Zealand,

LEONARD, ROLLINGS, SIZER/SIZAR and many others - Cambridgeshire

I only know three of my Great Grans, my mother never knew who her father was.

I was very lucky to know all of them, two of them passed away in my adulthood so I was able to glean lots of information from them  ;D

Podbury, London, Wilson (which was changed from Veitch, a long and winding road this lot !!)

I have managed to trace all of my GGrandmothers. They are

Maria Anne Colley b 1884 Tibberton Worcs died 3.7.1965 Wolverhampton. She married George Smith Harris and they only had two children I can find so far. She is the only GGrandmother I knew as she died when I was 18 months old. I have a picture of me sitting on her knee and I wear her wedding ring on my little finger

Annie Jones b 1867 Darlaston and died Wolverhampton. Her birth certificate is proving elusive so I am having a problem tracing her mothers maiden name. She married a Charles Henry Bowkett and had 11 children plus a possible Connie who I cant find and suspect may have been a daughter in law

Mary Ann Mears b 11.2.1859 Wolverhampton who married a Thomas Ralph and had four childen with him before he died aged 29. One of the children Matthew was killed in France in 1916. She then married Henry Hilton and had 7 children with him and there are rumours that there were another 3 that I haven't found trace of yet. One child, Samuel, was killed in Flanders France in 1914, Henry Ralph died aged 1, Lily Elizabeth died when she was 14 and Albert died before he was 1 in 1905

Martha Jane Roberts b 15.3.1879 Wolverhampton died 1901 Wolverhampton. As far as I am aware she only had Lily my grandmother and she was illigitimate

Three out of four. My mam's dad is a mystery, so can't get any further on his side.  I don't know if he was even using the right name.  My kids call him the mafia-man, and have made all sorts of things up about his past.  Nothing has ever surfaced about him, apart from his name on the birth certificates of my mam and uncle.

The three I have found - Alice Pryke, Margaret Lawson, Esther Campbell
