Snape in 1871
« on: Monday 27 March 06 22:21 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I'm trying to find out if the wife of George (b. abt 1818) and Sarah Snape(b. abt 1817) are in the 1871 census in Staffordshire (Biddulph). They lived in Mow Cop.  I'm trying to find death dates so MAYBE I can find Sarah's maiden name and Parents for both George and Sarah. George (at 63) appears to be in the 1881 census with his son William in Mow Cop as a widower. I have both George and Sarah in 1851, 1861 - are they in the 1871 census?? Don't confuse them with their son George Snape and wife Mary. There is a sister Sarah 13 in that record--so maybe her mother Sarah(b.1817) has died. Where's the older George in 1871?
Thanks!
Barbara

From FreeBMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com:

Deaths Mar 1866 - Congleton 8a 230
SNAPE Sarah    50

The best way to find out Sarah's maiden name would be to get a birth cert for one of her children - maiden names weren't on the death certs at this time.

Then you can look for a marriage, and the marriage cert will give the father's name and occupation for both George and Sarah.

This is an excellent link for explaining what info is on BMD certs: http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/indexbd.htm
