Loughrey

I am looking for details of my grandmother Annie Loughrey or Loughrea.  She married Thomas Moore and they were living in Dublin around the Newfoundland Street, Lower Jane Place and Church Road area.  Thomas was born around 1888 and died in Dublin 1969,  Annie died around 1977.  I do not know if they were born in Dublin.  Annie's siblings were Christine who married a John Nangle, Brigit who married a James Mulholland, Ellen who married James Keanrey and Margaret who married James Hunter.
Moore, Loughrey, Mullins, Dare, Seward, Pitman, Bromfield. Ciss, Rutkovskis, Newell, Draper, Stapelton, Greene.

Hiya Rustie

This site may assist you. It covers the period 1848-64 when Griffiths Valuation of Ireland took place. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0120317 It acts as a rough guide to where families may have lived if they were born well before or well after the dates of the valuation. Here is another site worth a look as it enables you to crosscheck two surnames http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/surname

I have a little bit of temporary bad news. I do not live in Dublin. I have a 5th edition (the latest edition) Dublin City and District Street Guide which I bought as I thought it would come in handy but in this instance, although you give an excellent location the Street Guide is no use. I phoned a friend who was driving her car at the time. She thinks she has seen Newfoundland Street at some time but cannot remember offhand in what part of the city. I had been hoping to find the streets, then the nearest church in the area.

I'll post again as soon as possible as I feel the streets and church are the way to go in this instance.

All the Best, Christopher

Hiya Rustie,

Is it the Moore family who were at Upper Iona Place?

Hi, yes my Moore's were at Upper Iona Place according to my aunts birth certificate.  However I now think that this may be a mis-spelling of Upper Jane Place.  According to all the books I have on the slum areas and tenement life not once is Upper Iona Place ever mentioned.  My Loughrey's in 1911 were at Merchants Road  but before that or after I have no idea.  I have since found Newfoundland Street, it is no longer there, must have gone after 1923 as that was when my mother was born.  I am just about set to give up trying to trace anything else.  I am not in Eire and have had to rely on the kindness of strangers to get this far.  Family left in Eire are not interested.  Thanks.
