Trying to find births
« on: Monday 27 March 06 13:21 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Hoping someone may be able to assist knocking down my brick wall.
I'm trying to hunt down the following births:
Surname -  Johnson
Mary Jane b. 4/12/1856
William      b. 30/8/1858
Robert       b. 5/9/1861
John          b. 27/2/1865
James       b. 24/2/1870
Charles    b. 6/7/1872
Thomas    b. 27/12/1874
There may also have been a Margaret -no birth date known.
All are children of William Ferdinand Ludwig Johnson & Margaret Johnson (nee Ryan) .  Most of the children married in SA, but I cant find any birth details.  I'm wondering if they were born in Vic or NSW.
William F.L. came from Denmark and his surname may have been Johannsen or similar and he changed it to Johnson on arrival in Aust. He died in SA in 1887 age 68. His wife Margaret came from Ireland, & died in SA in 1919 age 82.  I haven't got a marriage for William and Margaret either, at least not in SA.

Here's hoping someone can shed some light.
Cheers, C

Hi allycat & flinders
Thanks for your replies.
I have an Old Testament owned by Thomas Johnson with the birth dates of his brothers & sisters.
I have the death certificate of his mother, Margaret Johnson and I've found burial info for his father William Ferdinand Ludwig Johnson - both died in SA.

I've no idea where they married or where the children were born.  Some of the children went to school in SA.
I don't know in which state  they entered Aust, and because I cant find any marriage and birth details here in SA, I thought Vic or NSW would be the next place to search. I cant get to a public library (at least not in the next few weeks) as I dont live near a major city.  But when I do, I've got a loooong list !!!

The next place I'll have to look is to see if they married before coming to Aust.  Thanks for your help.

Cheers, C

Hi flinders
The death cert for Margaret Johnson says she resided at Williamstown SA, which is near the Barossa Valley.  She died in Gawler Hospital age 82 in 1919.  Widow of the late William Johnson.  She was 20 when married & had been living in the colony for 64 years.  Place of birth - Ireland, county not known.  She was a pensioner.

Perhaps Margaret & William never married ?

Cheers, C

Hello  and Welcome to Rootschat,

I could not locate birth in SA that would match  the time frame and father William. tried under variants of spelling as well.

It is possible  your Thomas may have been born interstate or overseas.

Do  you  know where and when he died

It  would better if you started a new topic.
