Hi Jen
I was convinced this was my alice Howe but further research revieled she wasnt. Alice was born at Thebarton SA I dont have her birth date and marriage and death certificates are a bit conflicting. I believe she was born around 1872- 1876. I have found a James Howe son of John Howe whom had children in the Buton SA area. On Thomas and Alice marriage cert it states they were living at Burton at the time of their marriage. I have a hunch her father was John Howe and her mother Bridget Teague but nothing confirmed.
Thanks Deby

yes found John and James only explanation I have been given is that they were catholic and that catholic families were not always keen to register births. Big mystery

Hello,

Mary Ann is Registered as Gonsen, William (My mother's G'father) is Ludwig Wilhelm Ferdinand Ganzen, he died in 1951 as Johansen - buried Langmeil Tanunda I live in Adelaide SA

Hello,
Hoping someone may be able to assist knocking down my brick wall.
I'm trying to hunt down the following births:
Surname -  Johnson
Mary Jane b. 4/12/1856
William      b. 30/8/1858
Robert       b. 5/9/1861
John          b. 27/2/1865
James       b. 24/2/1870
Charles    b. 6/7/1872
Thomas    b. 27/12/1874
There may also have been a Margaret -no birth date known.
All are children of William Ferdinand Ludwig Johnson & Margaret Johnson (nee Ryan) .  Most of the children married in SA, but I cant find any birth details.  I'm wondering if they were born in Vic or NSW.
William F.L. came from Denmark and his surname may have been Johannsen or similar and he changed it to Johnson on arrival in Aust. He died in SA in 1887 age 68. His wife Margaret came from Ireland, & died in SA in 1919 age 82.  I haven't got a marriage for William and Margaret either, at least not in SA.

Here's hoping someone can shed some light.
Cheers, C

Hi Rock C,

Yes, I had found the birth of Mary Ann under 'Gonsen'.

I had her father as Willhelm (William) Ferdinand Ludwig  and mother as Margaret Conway.  Thery married in 1856.  Initially I thought that Margaret Ryan was the mother, but this proved to be incorrect.

Willhelm and Margaret had a son William - is this your line of the family.

And welcome to Rootschat - I hope you'll find it as helpful as I have.   :)

Cheers, Chris.
