Hi

I am searching for information of Frederick Blackhall. b. 1850, labourer.

In the 1881 census, he is listed as being at 42 Edward Street.  Whether this is in Bethnal Green or not, I don't know, as the information I have just says London.

It seems that he was living with his parents, Thomas, head aged 72 and Frances Blackhall, wife aged 70, hawker.

Also at that address is Mary Ann Blackhall, who is his sister. b. 1835.

Frederick has no wife with him when the census was taken.

He had a daughter b. 1876.  Maybe his wife died in childbirth.

Does a wife show up on earlier censuses?

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to Rootschat

First you did not say where Frederick Blackhall was born.  I looked at the 1881 census and it says Bethnal Green.  There are lots of Edward Streets in London but there are some in Bethnal Green.

You are assuming that Frederick was Thomas son but I would think he is Mary Anne's son.  Thomas and Frances would be too old to have children.  They will be his grandparents.  The only way to prove this is to get Fredericks birth certificate.  He is on Freebmd as being registered in the March quarter of 1850 in Bethnal green ref 2  91

They are not in 1851 Bethnal Green or Whitechapel.

There are no Blackhalls in St George in the East or Whitechapel but there are some Blackalls as follows

HO 107/1538 folio 152
HO 107/1547 folio 97

Someone will look up these references for you.  If they don't after a week then ask again on a new post quoting the names and references.

You should make seperate posts for other census years.

Hi Sylviaann

Could you please look for Abraham Wartski and his family.   They were Polish/Russian immigrants who arrived in East London about 1850'ish.

             Thanks    Dave

Hi Sylvi

Wonder if you can look up a couple of names on the 1901 for me, probably Bethnal Green?

Harry Brawn Edwards, b. abt 1878
Annie Pardoe b. abt 1879

Thanks a bunch.
