Thanks a lot for the lookup, Sylvi, they must have arrived after census day.

Any chance for a check in the 1861 census, any Wartski will do.

Hi Sylvi

Have done a search on FreeBMD for harry Edwards and the Brawn should read Braun.  I thought it should have been, as my Birth Mother used it when she remarried in 1944.
Drake, Blackhall, Roney, Lovell.  Parry, Edwards,  Pardoe, Braun/Brawn/Bryan, all in Bethnal Green, Stepney, Whitechapel, Mile End, Tottenham, Palmers Green and Edmonton area.

I only have indexes for 1851 Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Shoreditch and St George in the East.

Anywhere else and any other year you should put in a seperate request.

You can look at the 1901 census yourself on the PRO site.  www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Hi Sylvi

Think I am getting the hang of this board now, having spent most of the morning reading the postings.

I'll try the PRO.  Have just found that Frederick Blackhall got married, June Qtr. 1874, Bethnal Green, 1c, 70_a, but putting a search for his wife, is proving difficult.  Will have to open up the images on FreeBMD

I think you will have to buy the certificate.  There is usually no other way to find the wife's name except on birth certificates.

Hi Sylvi

Yes, I think you are right, unless I can find out on the 1901 census.

Looks like I shall have to get some work in, as my pension keeps running out, with all these certs I have to keep buying and there is a queue building up, the further I get back!!

I'm afraid this hobby can be costly.  You need certificates to prove parentage.  You will probably need 28 birth certificate and 14 marriage certs.  Forget about the death certs.  I used to ask for them as birthday and Christmas presents.

I don't know how you will find a maiden name on the 1901 census.

It's costing me a lot now and I have ended up getting the wrong certs.  :)

My birth mother had a daughter, who is my eldest half sister, with the same name and I have noticed that Frederick Blackhall's sister has the same name as her mother!!

I found Frederick's marriage entry by searching FreeBMD, but open any image for that quarter.

Ohwell, I will have to put some posts up on here and see what it throws up.  Seems to be a great board.

Sylviaann,
I have the wedding cert for Elizabeth Emerson to my GtGrandfather on 29 aug 1875.

It shows her age as 23.

She appears in all census after the marriage but there appears to be no reference

before then.

If you have time could you see if she is traceable in 1851 census

Lovell, Emerson, Biggs, Collett, Gullifer/Gulefer, Naylor/nayler, Heath, Bentote
