curragh Camp marraige cert?
« on: Saturday 25 March 06 23:43 GMT (UK) »
hi i am a new member today, and i need help with a marraige cert i obtained from 1837 overseas. My g/grandfather born Liverpool was married at the Roman catholic chapel Newbridge to Mary tougher on 18th Sept 1881 they must of moved to India straight after because 3 of the 4 children were born in Dum Dum. the problem i have is the Marriage cert only has info on the groom there is a line through the brides details and i only know her name because of the entry at the bottom saying "this marriage was solomised between us signed William Hogan & Mary Tougher" is there any way to find a full cert with Marys details on? and why would they not be added? is this because the army would have no need of her info?would they have married on site or in a local church?i am at a loss with this one and cannot move on  ???Please advise!!!!!....mo-jo

I think that the marriage would have to have been registered with the Irish GRO as well.

Thanks for that Joe,
I will send an email off to them.
do you think i would be able to obtain another cert from these places using the army overseas ref, which is just a year and a page number? or would i have to do a new search?........Mo-jo

Hi Mo-Jo,

The overseas reference number that you have won't be of any use.......just give as much detail as you have.
Date, place, names of people who married etc.

Hi Mo-Jo,

No problem....I forgot to mention that there forms on the GRO Ireland site  that you can print out to fill in and post.

Mo Jo
I could help noticing the name Tougher.
If it is any help to you I do know that there is a family buisness (same name) which has been 'there forever' sited on the main Naas to Newbridge Road. It is a resturaunt & motel, simply called 'Trougher's.
The church in Newbridge which you refer to is also still there.

Thanks Billie Jo,
i have written to the Tougher family in Newbridge a few weeks ago, someone gave me the address, its a truck stop or shop, i haven't had a reply yet. i have also been in contact with a man from the Curragh family history and emailed the cert to him, he is going to check it against parish records in Newbridge, i am really excited as this was one branch of the tree i thought was lost forever! without this site and a lady called Janet from another site i would of left this alone......Mo-Jo

I'm afraid it's not a shop but you could say Hotel/motel 'truck stop' (up a level) - including a nice resturant where Families enjoy Sunday lunch (I did last week) not forgetting the  celebration Dinner-dance with live band at Xmas. (It's a huge place)
Name also in the phone book which is possibly something like www.eircom.ie
