Hi again Chota.  :)

Looking on the IGI there is a baptism for Thomas Crabtree on 2nd Feb 1782 at Belton, son of Thomas and Mary Crabtree.  I wonder if this is the same Thomas Crabtree aged 80 on the 1841 census found by Nicky?  The Ann Crabtree on the 1841 census could be his second wife and there is the Sykes link against that entry too.

There are two burials for Mary Crabtree showing up on the NBI on familyhistoryonline:

Mary Crabtree buried 5th April 1792, Belton in Axholme All Saints (no age given)
Mary Crabtree buried 20th Feb 1817, aged 57, Belton in Axholme All Saints

There doesn't seem to be any marriages for Belton on the IGI so I can't check out my theory of a second marriage for Thomas.

Jo.

Crabtree in Belton isn't very fruitful...

William mar Elizabeth Tune 10 Apr 1815

William(wid) mar Hannah Meggott 30 Jun 1829....looks like a second marriage given Hannahs age on census relative to the eldest children

David mar Jane Crackell 14 Apr 1818.

Then in Althorpe, ...

Samuel mar Christiana Waud 3 Aug 1787

Nothing in I of Ax earlier other than Frances/Marmaduke Some in Gainsborough
None in Manlake Deanery or Corringham Deanery.

Looks to me like a Yorks name rather than a Lincs name

Thanks for the NBI information Dave.  :)

It does look like William married twice (and quite quickly at that - he buried one wife in January 1829 and married the second in June of that same year!), and I can place some of the other burials too.

Thank you all for your help. I only stumbled upon this thread by accident and couldn't believe my luck! There is still a way to go before I have these Crabtrees sorted out. Is it pushing my luck to ask if anyone can find Thomas Crabtree in the 1841 cenus. In 1851 he is in Reedness, Yorks with his wife Sarah (?Davey) b. Althorpe and his daughter Sarah b. Reedness. I would be very grateful!

Hi Chota

My 2xgtgrandfather Robert Knipe's first wife was called Elizabeth Hunt, born Flixborough circa 1844, daughter of George and Frances Hunt.

I have read your interest in Thomas Crabtree and I am aware he is the father of Frances above so I have some further census information for you.

1841 Whitgift
Thomas Crabtree b 1786
Sarah Crabtree b 1786
Sarah Dodds (dau) b 1811

1851 Whitgift
Thomas Crabtree
Sarah Crabtree
Sarah Dodds
Frances Hunt (gddau) age 14 born Gunhouse

Frances is the daughter of George and Frances and is living with her parents in the 1841 census

1841 Gunhouse
George Hunt - 30 - Ag Lab
Frances Hunt - 25
Sarah Hunt - 8
Frances - 4

Thomas is still around in 1861 living with granddaughter Frances again, however this time she is married. And Elizabeth is also there.

1861 Whitgift
Whitaker Burton - 25 - Shoemaker b Whitgift
Frances Burton - 23 - Shoemaker's wife b Gunhouse
Walter Burton - 1 - Shoemaker's son b Whitgift
Elizabeth Hunt - Vis - 18 - Dressmaker  b Flixboro
This is squashed in but I think it says Thomas Burton - son - b Whitgift
Thomas Crabtree - Vis - Wid - 74 -   Lab - b Belton

You will note that in the 1881 census where Frances Hunt is with the Sykes there is a girl called Mary Frances Burton as the niece, I believe this is the daughter of Whitaker and Frances above. Also I think the Ann Sykes married to John is Frances' sister.

Hope that all makes sense and helps you out.

All the best

Thank you Janda,
Since posting my request in April I had managed to find out most of the census information myself but thank you very much for taking the time and trouble. People are so very kind. Are you descended from Robert Knipe and Elizabeth Hunt or from Robert and his second wife? If from Robert and Elizabeth then we share some great grandparents.
Have you gone any furthur back with the Hunts?
Best wishes and many thanks,
Barbara
