James URNE - 1841 census lookup please
« on: Friday 24 March 06 11:06 GMT (UK) »
Greetings from Australia!

I would welcome 1841 census details for James Urne and his family who were from Middlesex. I don't have any other information to allow me to be more specific as to where in Middlesex, I'm sorry. .James would have been about 40/41 in 1841. If you came across any other URNEs it would be great to have that information as well.

Hoping someone can help me find him and his family.

Thanks

Elsie

Hi Elsie,

This couple came up too, but this James is 10 years too young...

HO107/661/9/12/17
Falcon Court, St. James Clerkenwell, Middlesex
James Uren, 30, Mason(?), born in county
Jane Uren, 20, born in county

I found several James Uren, but all from Cornwall - seems to be a common name there.

There are various other spellings that are possible, like Ern/Earn/Urn, or ones that are possible mistakes, like Uren/Urem/Uran.

Who are the other family members you expect to be with him?

Hello!

Hope this might help.

The following are the names of James' family :
Mary Ann (nee James)
Elizabeth born circa 1833
Lavinia birthdate as yet unknown
Susanna born circa 1830/31
Emily born circa 1838.

All the information I have been able to obtain through BD&M records, the South Australian Biographical Index and a passenger list all use the spelling URNE. I have come across noone else in Australia with this surname. Perplexing.

Cheers

Elsie

Hello Elsie

Still no luck with any of the censuses I'm afraid.

BUT  ;D I did find a birth of a Lavinia Emma URNE in the Dec 1/4 of 1845 in Islington- any good?

Great to have an unusual name to search, but so much more chance of it being mistranscribed.....I know I have Rapkin to look for .

Regards

Carol

OOOo Elsie

Do you know about the website www.GenesReunited.co.uk
There is someone called Rebecca searching for the very Lavinia I've just told you about.

Good luck. ;D

Carol

PS that's not you is it?

Hi Elsie

Do you know what James occupation was as there is a possibility in the 1841 that I have found.  The surname is hard to read, looks like A, or M, or H..rne.

Hello Carol.

Lavinia Emma Urne is the name of one of the daughters. I did not know about Genes Reunited until you mentioned it...I am not Rebecca!

I've just had a quick browse and will have to consider subscribing before I can establish contact with her. This would be fantastic...surely there can't be two Lavinia Emma Urnes!

Thank you so much for your help today, and especially for this new lead.

Cheers

Elsie

Hello Cazay!

James occupation is noted as a Gardener on the passenger list to Australia as well as the death certificate of Jane. I do know that for a time in Australia he was also a teamster/bullocky.

He seems to have moved around a tad! I am presuming that he worked as a gardener when he was on the Island of Jersey but I have nothing concrete to substantiate that statement.

Does this information help?
