Does anyone have any information on Thomas Rose Born C.1863 alfreton/Belper area. Parents would be great
any help appreciated.

1871 Census  RG10/4798  Folio 43 Sch 91
5, back of Gloders Buildings, Dunn Street, Attercliffe Cum Darnell, Nr. Sheffield

Rose  Thomas   Head   widow  38 Labourer at Iron Works      Norton Disney Lincolnshire
"        John         son                 13                                                "        "
"       Annie         dau                11                                            Swanick, Derbyshire
"     Thomas       son                  8                                             Reading, Derbyshire.

Although the place of Birth for Thomas actually states Reading, I am sure this should
be Riddings, Derbyshire (we do not have a Reading in Derbys)  Riddings and Swanwick
(correct spelling) are near to each other and are both close to Alfreton.  The Belper Registration District would cover these areas.

In the 1861 Census, Thomas with his Wife Ann and children John & Ann are
living Railway Huts, Alfreton.
Ann is listed as Wife  25  born Thorp on the Hill, Lincolnshire.
Can supply full info if you think this is your Thomas.

That would be great, and would make interesting reading. I have one listing born in Alfreton and one listing born in Belper, as they are all in the same area, does it depend on who writes these things up?

Hi Julie,
When you say you have one listing Alfreton and one Belper what do you mean?

If these listings are from the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages then
the listing can only be Belper Registration District, because Alfreton comes within
this district. 

However if you are taking the info from  Census, then this will be the place given
to the Census Enumerator by each individual.
PLEASE SUPPLY THE LISTINGS TO WHICH YOU REFER.

It would appear that the Enumerator taking this Census has shortened the Counties
as Lincoln is actually Lincolnshire, and Derby is actually Derbyshire.

Hi Julie,

I have checked the entries on the 1871-1891 Census, in all these entries
Thomas Rose B 1863 states born Reading which should be Riddings, Riddings and
Alfreton.

I think you are confusing the BMD entry which states Belper, this does not mean
he was actually born in Belper this is just the Registration Area.  It would appear
from the Census Information he was actually born in Riddings nr Alfreton.

If you re do your search on free BMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
for Thomas Rose B 1863 when the actual entry appears click on BELPER, on next
screen it will say Information about Belper Click Here, if you click on this you will
see all the places covered by the Belper Registration District one of which is Alfreton.

When you find a Death/Marriage or Birth  it is always advisable to follow the above
to obtain all the places covered by a Registration District.

I am assuming that the only place you have seen Belper is this Birth Registration
is this correct?

You are probably right, i know I saw Belper somewhere. Now Im looking for Thomas Rose Snr Born C.1833 in Norton Disney

Hi

Think you will find that Thomas Rose was born abt 1828 (age given in 1861 Census)
This may be him, prior to his marriage, on the 1851 Census

HO107/2136 Folio 236 Sch 17

Think you will find that Ann Trueman was the Daughter of John Trueman and
Ann Glazebrook who married 8.12.1828 Thorpe on the Hill this from

I can find Thomas on the 1881 census in chesterfield, but cant find him in 1891. Could he be one of these deaths
