Hi Hilary,

Thanks for the additional info. How frustrating to get so close to civil registration but just miss it! Peter Kerr is my husband's 4th great grandfather via his daughter Janet who married George Gray. Perhaps the birthplace references of Torphichen and Craigmailen in the censuses will eventually prove helpful. I don't recognize Binnie as a place in West Lothian and I have not yet viewed the census record myself. I'll let you know if I uncover anything useful.
