Photo dating challenge #5!
« on: Saturday 18 March 06 11:16 GMT (UK) »
Righty-oh all you photo dating experts  ;D
Here is your next challenge.  Now, I don't have an exact year for this one, but I'm certain within 2 years either side of a given year, so you have some leeway  ;)

This time, as well as guessing, I want you to write down a few of the things that led you to the conclusion you drew.

GOOD LUCK  :)

Prue

1872.  I have a similar one of my GG Grandmother taken in the early 1880s, but that one just looks older.

Hi,

I'd guess 1889...because of the lace. ;D ;D

Mid to late 1870s, again because of the lace and hair style.
Coming down on 1877.

Well Prue!

I'm scared NOT to say Irish now ...... and seeing as how the photograph was taken in Southport - which is close to Liverpool - which is the capital of Ireland ....  :P  ;)

It's my opinion ...... she's Irish 1898

Well, I'm way out of line with everyone else's guesses - but the high neck, side bow and lace collar(s) make her look borderline late Victorian/early Edwardian to me. I say 1902.

at a guess and a stab with a blunt pin I would say about 1888. Why that date........well,  Bickerstaffe is noted as the photographer and, in or around 1890 he also had a studio in Rochdale, as this is not shown on the front of the card (not too hot on this but is it a cart de visite? or something like that) I would assume that it was taken prior to the Rochdale studio opening.
