LOL everyone, and Paul...let's not stereotype the blokes, if ladies can wear trousers then we can allow Paul's uncle to wear a lacy frock!  ;D

I'm going to put you all out of your misery now.  Ready...?

This is Elizabeth McKay, a first cousin of my grandad Harry McKay.  She was born in 1881, and we think this photo was taken on her 18th birthday.  So, give or take two years, that puts the date range at 1897-1901.

And the winner is.....ANNIE!  Elizabeth wasn't Irish, but you got the date at least!!!  Perserverance pays off!  Here is a Nobel Prize in Dating Photographs for you, Annie!

Everyone else, well done - I will post another one soon.  I think you're gettting addicted!  ;D
Thanks for playing!
Prue

I read that vertical pleats on the bodice are middle 1890's.
I have a photo of a young lady( grandmother) taken also at the end of the 19th C in a white dress (that might have pleats on the bodice)  high neck/collar looks plain, slight leg o' mutton sleeves, and hair piled up on top of her head under a hat with flowers. She told me (when I was a  little girl )that when a young lady reached the age of 16,  she was no longer a child and therefore it was the day she could "put up her hair". It  was a big day for young ladies. :)

Pru

Is there a way of telling whether a  photo was taken a few years after the clothing style was fashionable or they were bang up to date :-\
Well done Annie - you've had a good weekend what with the Irish win as well ;D
