Hello Claire,  I have been researching the elusive Antrim Hill family for many years.  I do have a William Hill b. 1843 who immigrated to NZ some time before 1900 with a sister Mary and brother Isaac.  My G Gr. father was the youngest brother George b. 1852.  There were also 2 older brothers James & Robert.  Their father was Robert Hill, mother unknown, but it was the 2nd marriage for Robert.  No children from the 1st. Robert Sr. was destined for the Anglican church, but became a Farmer instead.  If any of this sounds familiar, please contact me. ~ Judy

Hello,

I am currently compiling my own family history and being a 'Hill' from Antrim wondering if you could help. The Hills i am interested in are the ones from around the Maghaberry(Megaberry as it was historically)/Aghalee area and also the ones around the Dunmurry area.

My great-grandfather was Joseph Hill - buried at Ballinderry Moravian Church. He was married twice with his first wife dying young - also buried in Ballinderry. To my knowledge, he re-married a Sarah Thompson and they had five sons and a daughter (Alfred, James, Samuel, Hubert, Bertie and Florence) - Joseph and Sarah signed the Ulster Covenant at Soldierstown Parish Church - next to Sarah's name was an Emma Hill - i've no idea who this Emma is though and no-one in the family seems to - I am assuming it is Joseph's daughter from her first marriage. Joseph and his first wife I believe also had at least one other son, called Joseph.

If you know anything here it would be a great help. Thanks.

Just an update on my previous post - my Hill family are starting to fall into place and have the Hill name tracked back to the early 1800s. Last Hill I have is a Joseph Hill who married Jane Strannicks on the 21st December 1824 in Aghalee.

I believe, this is my G-G-G-Grandfather. An elusive bunch though and I haven't got it 100% confirmed yet and had to relay on the IGI records.

Joseph and Jane had at least 5 children.... Sarah b. 1826, Joseph b. 1828, William b. 1830, another William b.1832 and Margaret b. 1839.

The Joseph b. 1828 I believe is my great great grandfather and he married Harriet Collins. They had at least five children, again relaying on IGI they were:

Emma Hill b.1853, Sarah Jane Hill b. 1856, William Hill b.1860, Joseph Hill b.1863 and Robert Hill b.1865

Again, the Joseph here is my great grandfather who had two marriages, the first to Jane Anna Spratt with whom he 5 children before she died, I believe in child birth.

With his second wife, Sarah Thompson (although I can't find their marriage), he had seven children including my grandad.

All piecing together nicely and not too bad for a couple of months work! :)

The only William Hill I found recently was William born 1765 with lots of sons one being William born 1800 living in Ballycor Antrim in 1813.

children Agnes, Robert, William ,David ,Hugh,Jennet,John
wife Rachel

might not be much help to you at the moment but a least you now know there were William's in Antrim.

Steve

Here is a David Hill, son of William Hill. I am looking for a David Hill, born about 1760 in Antrim County, Ireland. He is likely related to the Hillsborough Hill family, and "William Hill" continues in the family.
