I would so appreciate it if someone could verify a marriage for me.   I'm looking for the marriage of Armstead Taylor to Mary Fortington in Feb. 1781 at Trinity, Ely, Cambridge.

I've seen his name spelled Armsted and her last name as Fortington or Bedington.

Here's the entry I found this morning:
Ely Holy Trinity, a marriage on 20-02-1781 between Armsted TAYLOR bac otp and Mary FORTINGTON sp. otp.  Witnesses: Jas Ashton and Frs Winter
Not sure whether Frs indicates a woman, Frances, or a man, Francis!

Again--thanks so very much for making the effort to find this record for me.  I am in the U.S. and saw the information on ancestry.com, but I wanted to know that it could be verified.

What does the "otp" mean?  I assume "bac" is bachelor and "sp" is spinster.

"Otp" means "of this parish".  Normally with both bride and groom living in Ely you would have seen "botp", but they were written down here separately.  If either had been from nearby Ely, i.e. Witchford, or  maybe Stretham, this would have been put down - another clue to where maybe to search for earlier records for that particular family...
