I've recently come across the website below and wonder if anyone following the Knott family knows if the information is correct.

It has Harriet Mayne KNOTT m. John RIDGWAY.   Harriet b. 1812 d. 1903, daughter of Richard and Harriet Mayne KNOTT.

Thanks,

Richard Mayne, William Mayne and Henry Mayne baptised (triplets!) baptised 02 11 1817. Parents Richard & Harriet Ann Knott. Richard = cooper

Found on Family Search that Richard Mayne KNOTT was born 03 Dec 1813 but baptised 2.11.1817
William Mayne KNOTT was born 17 Jul 1815 but baptised 2.11.1817.
Henry Mayne KNOTT was born 11 Jul 1817 baptised 2.11.1817.

So NOT triplets!
On William Mayne KNOTT's baptism they have mother as Harriet ANN
ALSO under England and Wales, Non-Conformist Record Indexes (RG4-8) on Family Search they have baptisms for Richard 8.12.1813 and William 15.11.1815.
So it seems they were baptised as Non-Conformists and then later in a different denomination?.

Also Harriet Mayne KNOTT baptised 13.12.1812 St Clement, Worcester - parents Richard and Harriet

I haven't been able to find a marriage for parents Richard Mayne KNOTT to Harriet?
Anyone else found that yet?

Regards,
Sashar  :)

Thanks for the information - sorry not to have replied sooner but have been on holiday for a couple of weeks.  I'll contact Cleobury Mortimer History Society and see if I can find out any more details.  Is it possible we've got more than one Mayne Knott family all with the same names or am I confusing the "Mayne Knotts" with the "Knotts" ????? The Knott becomes more tangled than ever!  I've spoken to a relative who married into the Mayne Knott family and she can't understand things either.
UK: Mayne Knott, Knott, Freeman, Caisley, Uncles, Harvey, Palmer, Guest, Sheffield, Blackmore, Nicholls, Purves
US: Uncles, Breadney.

From the local newspaper 'The Bridgnorth Journal'
Issue 14 June 1862;
There was a lengthy court case report involving theft from Henry Mayne KNOTT - boot & shoe maker  in High Street. Mentions Martha KNOTT, wife of Henry.

Issue 22 April 1865;
Public Notice - The Partnership between James RODEN and Henry KNOTT, trading as Roden & Knott - Brass & Iron founders of Underhill Street, has been dissolved.

Issue 4 May 1867;
Henry M KNOTT was placing weekly advertisements for his Boot & Shoe establishment in The New buildings.

Just like to thank Gwynne for posting the above.   I had not mentioned any of the above to a relative in the UK and he recently emailed me saying that he's heard a family story that the KNOTT's had something to do with owning a Shoe Business!!    As the KNOTT's seemed always to be recorded as Coopers I was quite surprised and grateful that Gwynne had posted these little snippets which have now connected family recollections with fact.
All came beautifully together - another KNOTT unravelled  ;D

Mayne Knott - I guess some of the family could have integrated the two surnames Mayne and Knott and used them as the one surname while others just used KNOTT.   Be interested in what else you can find at Cleobury Mortimer HS.    Thanks for contacting again.
