Volume number for The West Midlands -  XVI and 6d covering :

Warwick, Aston, Birmingham, Rugby, Stratford, Coventry and Alcester.

Think that should answer your question  ;)

me again,
Walsall 6b is the reference for the volume in the district I gave you the information for from Genuki

Quote
GRO volumes : XVII (1837-51); 6b (1852-1930).

does that help,

from memory when my son was at Warwick Univ. Birmingham is not too far away I think  ?? ???
Newbie

Glad you got that sorted, pity I didn't spot it sooner - all my husband's great grandparents come from Aston, Walsall and Birmingham so I've become a bit of an expert in the geography!  Oh I forgot the lot that come from Tamworth which is mostly in Staffordshire but is often referred to in Warwickshire  :-\ :-\

Aston used to be bigger than Birmingham but Birmingham gradually absorbed it and it became an inner city surburb of Birmingham (as in Aston Villa football team, Aston university, Aston expressway leading to Spaghetti Junction). It is a deprived inner city area.
Birmingham borders onto the Black country, the industrialised south of Staffordshire, so you might find civil events in Birmingham, Aston, Walsall and West Bromwich from the same family because basically these registration districts are all bordering each other.

Regards

Valda

Hi Valda, thank you for explaining the boundaries etc, for some reason staffordshire just sounded like it was a bit further away than it actually was.
