Seeking Chees(e)man Family details
« on: Tuesday 14 March 06 04:42 GMT (UK) »
After searching since 1979, thanks to a kind researcher I have finally recieved info on my 2x great grandfather Edward Cheeseman in the 1851 Census
at the Old Dover Road Workhouse aged 15 and later entries in 1861 and 1871 Census entries.

I am looking for Edward Cheeseman son of William Cheeseman in the 1841 census. Edward would be about 5 years old. Any Edward Chees(e)man of about that age would be a possibility as father's name only known from 1878 marriage entry.

Also interested in finding his baptism entry in a Kent Parish register entry. I have no idea who his mother was.
1851,1861 and 1871 census entries only indicate
born in Canturbury, Kent.

Would love details on Cheeseman's generally in Kent in case latter on they connect to this or earlier Cheeseman
family ancestral branches.

Any help would be most appreciated

regards

Hi Michael

I assume from the census entries that you are referring to the Canterbury workhouse?

If he was baptised in Canterbury you potentially have a long search on your hands, as GENUKI lists 16 churches in the City:

All Saints, Cathedral (Christ Church), Holy Cross, St Alphege, St Andrew, St Dunstan, St George the Martyr, St Margaret, St Martin, St Mary Bredin, St Mary Bredman, St Mary Magdalene, St Mary Northgate, St Mildred, St Paul, St Peter.

I believe this list is incomplete!

Regards, Bill

During my research into the Manser's of Hadlow noticed a Cheeseman's alley and the
Surname crops up quite often in the village.
Happy hunting
