Many modern books contain an email address so that people can contact either authors or publishers requesting permission to use photographs from their book (I'm not certain about quoting paragraphs or large chunks of chapters but it's probably possible as it tends to help with the sale of books). In the case of contacting a publisher they may pass a message to the author. This is being done in the case of photographs from a site where I post a lot of messages. I have permission to post some photographs from a book about a preparatory school in Co. Armagh. In the case of photographs the number of pixels should be reduced as this makes it difficult to copy them. Anyone interested in doing this may find they are also asked to mark the pictures as well.
