Norfolk Parish Registers

I took time off work to go to Norwich Records Office last week. It was great - I found so much! But I ran out of time. Work gets in the way of my hobby! 

Is there another way I can access Norfolk Parish Registers? I'm particularly interested in the period 1750-1850.

The NRO sells facsimile copies of registers ATs and BTs, mostly on microfiches, some are on microfilm. If you cannot get to Norfolk esily, it is a simple way of carrying on research at home at a time that is convenient to yourself and whilst supping a cuppa.

Are the fiches and films held elsewhere, in case I go and buy a reader then find out I could have found them elsewhere?!

An annual copy was made of parish register entries. The church year is followed for this copy, i.e. entries run from Easter to Easter.

For 6 years, the copy was returned to the Archdeacon and so known as the Archdeacon's Transcript (AT).

In the 7th year, the copy was returned to the Bishop and so known as the Bishop's Transcript (BT).

Not all ATs and BTS survive, but they are a useful alternative to registers. Also, some registers are incomplete and/or illegible where ATs/BTs survive and just occasionally you will find an entry in an AT/BT which isn't in the register (presumably the Cleric failied to copy the entry from his day book into the register, but remembered to for the AT/BT).

Not all shires have ATs as well as BTs and they are collectively, generally known as BTs. I believe that the mormons do not differentitate between the two.

The NRO hold records on fiches/film, the SoG in London has many records on film (though when I last used these copies they were poor quality). Fiches records are available for other shires from relevant record offices.

If you don't want to go to the expense of buying a fiches reader (though second hand ones are quite cheap), thenif you live near to a library, ask if you can use their machine - they often just gather dust otherwise - not as convenient as home, but still closer than Norfolk.

Try this website... http://www.genealogy.doun.org/transcriptions/index.php  I found it really helpful when searching for my Norfolk lot!

I've just had a quick look, I found a Frances Reeve (not sure if male or female!) child of William Reve and Elizabeth Sharwood (married 1771) Children, William born 1772,
Elizabeth born 1774, Ann born 1775, John born 1777, Susannah born 1779, Robert born 1781, James born 1783, Thomas born 1786, Frances born 1788.

They were in Fouldon, I've no idea where they is in relation to East Rudham

From the Bishop's Transcripts there is also a Frances Reeve born 1785, child of John and Ann in East Tuddenham
A Frances Reeve born 1786, child of William and Sarah from Whinburgh

The records cover all Norfolk and are not costly.

it contains an index to some East Rudham records which may be of use to you. All entries found on the NTA web-site should be double checked against original records, both to confirm accuracy and to extract the full information.
