Look up request - George Hall died Battle of Mafeking

Hi

I wonder if anyone could help me.  I am looking to find out about George Hall born 30/7/1879 Derbyshire, England. (my Great grandma's brother). He went to the left wing school in curragh camp.  I think he lived with his Grandma.  Her name could have been Dinah Ann Hall.  We think that she took George back to ireland where she had come from.  Then served in the Army and died in the Battle of Mafeking.

Do you know where i could find what regiment he could have been Fighting with after leaving ireland for the Boer war.  Will I be able to find out who he lived while at curragh camp school. Do you know if i would be able to find a roll of honour with his name on. My great uncle says he served under a 'Gordon'. (I known that the General Gordon had already died)but could there have been other officers by the name of Gordon.

Regards Roni

Hello Roni and welcome to Rootschat :)

I had a look in the Times Digital Archive to see if I could see anyone by the name of G. Hall listed as killed or wounded in South Africa during that time period. Couldn't see anyone by the name of Hall for Mafeking but there is a Squad.Sgt Major G. Hall [2209], 10th Hussars, listed as sick on the 18th January 1900 and then on the 24th January he is listed dead as follows:
"2209 Squad. Q.-Mr. - Sgt. G. Hall, 10th Hussars died at Naanwpoort of rheumatic fever, January 21st."

hope this might help

best wishes
Margaret :)

The army overseas death indexes at the Family History Centre have those killed in the Boer War. You can access them at 1837online.

http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/HomeServlet

Follow the links for military records and Boer War.

George's army attestation papers should be held at The National Archives Kew.
