Hello Frank,

I realise it's some time since you last logged on but if you're reading the threads that you opened do you know the denomination of John and Isabella? You'll have to rely on Church Records when searching for details about them as they were born and married before Civil Registration was introduced in Ireland in 1864.

Ballyknock is a townland in the parish of Moira and Kilwarlin is a small townland lying between the parishes of Hillsborough and Moira.

Christopher

UPDATE from Frank ( Francis)  John McCauley

I have since discovered that my GG Grandmother's name was  ISABELLA SEMPLE. not Simple.
I think her birth date would be around 1830 in or around Balleymena, County down.
Thank you Jim.
She married my GG Grandfather John Richard McCauley in or around 1850.
I am sure they had more that 1 child. The only record i have is their son
James Patrick McCauley born April 10, 1851 in Ballyknock, County Down N.I. He
died November 5, 1943 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, He married Susanna Law in or around June 1883 in Kilwarlin, N.I.
I believe James Patrick immigrated to Ontario, Canada in or around 1884 /1885.

I cannot get back any further that the above. I have both Ballyknock and Balleymena listed in the family bible.
I would appreciate any info and or connection to the above McCAULEY and SEMPLE families.

I obtained this information from our family bible that is now in my possession.

Looking in more depth at Kilwarlin
from Ros Davies Co Down website ie freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/PLACENAMES/K.htm#Kilm
Kilwarlin  Hillsborough .  4km SW of Hillsborough town; a large district in 1575 held by Rory Magennis & manor here in 1641; a new parish; also see Corcreeny townland; Church of Ireland, Moravian & Catholic churches here; Sabbath school 31 Dec 1836: seat of the Marquis of Downshire 21 Oct 1837: new church St Johns 4 May 1839: meeting of tenantry 2 Mar 1850: Catholic Parochial House; Farming Society 15 Aug 1863; meeting of tenants 1 May 1869; opening of Orange Hall 8 Nov 1879; Kilwarlin Cottage here V12 p 68,99 OSM; UHF V18; old b/w map K5; PNNI V6 p 12, 13;LR 2005 p 12

Looking in more depth really to see if church records might exist
from Ros Davies Co Down website ie freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/CHURCHES/A-I.htm#Hillsborough
Hillsborough 20: 21/59 Church of Ireland;St. John's Chapel of Ease in Upper Kilwarlin, in Corcreeny townland St. John's Rd, Hillsborough, 6km SW of Hillsborough; click herefor a photo & more information  .
Hillsborough Church of Ireland; St. James Chapel of Ease  in Lower Kilwarlin, Ballykeel Artifinny townland, Lony Rd, Hillsborough ; click here for a photo & more information  .
Hillsborough 20: 21/57 Kilwarlin Moravian Chapel in Corcreeny townland, on a by-road 1km south of Hillsborough-Moira road; click here for a photo and more information  .
Hillsborough 20:23/59  Catholic; Kilwarlin Reilly’s Trench townland, on the main road between Hillsborough and Moira; graveyard attached ,gravestones UHF Vol 18, oldest stone 1831; photo in Vol 18 UHF; email me for a gravestone look-up;click here for a photo & more information

the Presbyterian churches are not close ie
Hillsborough Presbyterian in Lisburn Street, in the north end of Hillsborough town; click here for a photo and more information  .
Hillsborough/ Annahilt  Presbyterian in Ballykeel- Ednagonnel townland; called Annahilt / Loughaghery Meeting House; see under Annahilt

However I think I will suggest that the first names suggest a catholic influence for the Kilwarlin lines so I suggest you focus on St. Colmans' Catholic Church, Kilwarlin on the main road between Hillsborough and Moira where the records are baptisms from 1812; graveyard attached , gravestones UHF Vol 18, oldest stone 1824; email me Ros Davies for a gravestone look-up; the graveyard surrounding the chapel is enclosed with a quickset fence and the entrance is from the road by an iron gate
 keep going, Jim

Susanna Law (married James McCauley) was a sister of my great grandmother Elizabeth Law.  Their father was John Law (died 11 May 1892) and their mother was Jane Mulholland.  John and Jane were married on 13 June 1852 in Moira, Church of Ireland.  They had 5 children, Martha Jane, James, John and the above mentioned Susanna and Elizabeth.

My great grandmother married John McCluskey on 8 February 1898 in St Colman's Catholic Chapel, Kilwarlin.  Her brother John married Elizabeth Quinn in Armagh on 20 Feb 1876.

My grandfather's cousin,Henry Magennis, married Alice McCauley in St Colmans, Kilwarlin, on 7 July 1878.  The witnesses were James and Sarah McCauley.  They had one child, John Edward.  Alice died in 1879.
